I did it again--lost ATM card

I did it again--lost ATM card

Postby Ira » Tue Jun 20, 2006 8:27 am

Second time in 3 months:

I left my ATM card in the machine, and when I realized my stupidity and went back to retrieve it, it was already turned in and the bank had destroyed it.

I am really pissed--10 days to get a new one.

I suspose is might be easy to do... I just count to 3..... card, money, receipt.... sometimes I forget if I put the card back in my wallet, so check that 2 or 3 times..... but, I'm retired, so have the time...

I always remember that. A freind of mine left it in there and with the screen saying do you want another transaction. The next person did and took $300 out.

The worst part of it is, I only have like 7, 8 checks left--I just reordered. (I'm not the organized type.)

So the worst thing I can do is go cash a check for a few hundred bucks (if I have that much in there), and have that much cash sittting in my pocket at one time with all of the TEAR stuff I still have to buy.

7 to 10 days, and I'm not optimistic:

Jeb is Governor here, hence our banking laws.

He also made it legal for us to shoot someone that we "feel" is threatening. ...hey, why is the neighbor coming to far over with his lawn mower. Wheres my gun. :frightened:

My wife had an occasion where the ATM sucked her card back in. The bank she called them and they and returned it to her. I lost mine a couple months ago. When I went back and told them I needed another one, I also told them that it was gonna expire soon, they didn't charge me but it still took 10 days. I don't think Jeb is to blame on that, blame the bank for being slow. I think you need a new bank, actually I use a credit union banks charge too much.

I lost my card in a machine 20 years ago... now I keep my wallet open until the card is back in it.

Works for me!

OK, boys, here comes today's history lesson - my sister and I were discussing this recently and this thread has made me remember it.

My dad had the very first type of cash machine card issued in Britain and as a special treat we kids were allowed to operate it (under close supervision, you understand). I guess this was the late 1960s.

The card was for a single-use, single-value cash dispenser - you put the card in and £10 (~$20) came out. The dispenser kept the card which bank staff used to see which account to deduct the money from - and then they sent the same card back by post!

Next week: how to get better mileage from your steam engine.....

Not terribly convenient, unless they issued you more than one card. That way you can still use your card while the other was in transit. I guess they eventually figured out how to refine the system.
