Tire spacing

Postby climbnkd » Sat Jun 25, 2016 7:08 pm

Hi all,
I put a custom axle on my tear and ended up with a 2 3/4" gap between the sidewall of the tire and the side of the trailer. Just wondering what is the "usual" or common gap between the tire and the trailer?

Thanks.

John.....That does sound pretty wide. I can't speak to what is "common", but my build is on a standard HF 1750 lb rated trailer with the OEM axle and 5.30 X 12 tires. The gap between the tire wall and frame is 1 inch. I'm sure others can enlighten you more, but it's a start........Good roads and fair winds to you............

I've got about 2.5" on mine. On my second build, I cut that down to 1.5".

You could go with offset rims if you need to narrow it down.

Better to have to much space than to little, you can always move fenders out to cover tires and fill gap, pretty hard to move them in if they are already against body...
