Bag awning Mount

Postby BERT » Mon Apr 27, 2015 3:27 am

Hi Everyone,

There is always a lot of conversation this time of year as we get ready to hit the open road about how to mount a new bag awning. There have been some creative ways of doing so and I would like to thank everyone for their posts! Here are a few pics of how I mounted a 12' bag awning from Shademaker on my 6 X 12 Haulmark.

I did not have an awning rail and with the curved roof, clearance above the top of the door was an issue. I bought a 1" x 3/4" piece of aluminum bar stock that was 12' long to use as both a space and mounting rail. I needed the spacer to act a a mount because the actual "flat" length of the trailer is less than that of the minimum for the awning. I wanted the whole length of the trailer covered by the awning. The extra length though required me to notch the bar stock to fit over the "strapping" at both the front and back of the trailer. Overall it turned out pretty good. I caulked all the self tapping screws that penetrated the exterior and used butyl tape for the length of the bar stock between it and the skin of the trailer. Already tested it out in a heavy rain and there were no leaks into the trailer or through the spacer bar and down the side wall.

The Shademaker awning is so easy to set-up and packs small on the side of the trailer. I highly recommend this product!

I hope this further helps out those wishing to add an awning to their rig.

BERT, Howdy;

Looks like an excellent job of mounting the awning.
Would you happen to have a photo of it stowed for travel???

Shademaker Supreme XL is on the top of my candidate list for bag awnings. There are lower priced brands, but this one appears to be well made and I just like the story of the owner

Thank you so much for the pictures and info. I just installed an awning yesterday following your photos. Worked perfectly.
Thanks!
