Oh those rascally Rabbits! Life has expanded to take up more time than would normally be allowed,... The first layer of 1" R 6.5 insulation has been applied to the walls and R 13 2" has been placed in the ceiling. Now the second layer is going in... Photos to follow... but we have all seen these insulation photos before.

First went sound insulation the thermal insulation... Now party Insulation...

Now the work begins!... Plumbing ???

Postby Camp Wags » Sun Jun 05, 2016 3:01 pm

I have most of the insulation done and I am at the point I need to figure out my plumbing needs. I am installing a composting / self-contained toilet so I do not need to worry about Black water tank. I will have a shower inside along with a sink that will require a grey water tank or at least one of those portable wheeled tanks.

I have spent this whole rainy day searching this fine board and now have more questions than answers. I will be using a Hepvo Hygienic Self Sealing Waste Valve on the grey water out... What would I need if I were staying at a campground with sewer hookup and what would I need to hold grey water if out boon docking? I have the fresh water and pump worked out, just the grey to figure out.

While I am here, let me stir up the AC question... Do I go with a mini split, rooftop unit, or cut out for a window unit? I am planning on a 12 volt DC and also 120 AC. I have the choice of my Xantrex Inverter/charger or my IOTA DLS 75WIQ4 Converter/Charger with an Outback inverter. I have (4) 155ah 12 volt AGM batteries that I will be using. Wish I could get a lithium bank like OTTCT but don't know where and how much$$$. At this point I feel that most campgrounds will have electrical hook ups, so long lasting electrical deprivation will not be necessary.

Forgot the Photos! ... :frightened:

142244

First layer in. Why do all the insulation photos on these builds look the same?

142246

Where the silver is, is where the shower stall and Bathroom wall will come out beside the fold out bed.

142245

This side shows 2" of high-performance polyisocyanurate foam core on the walls and the ceiling has 3" on it at present with one more inch going on the ceiling when I close up everything.

It sure takes longer and cost more then I originally planed for. :( :?

Get used to that, It only gets better from here. Then again, you get what you pay for. So if you pay for the insulation now, you'll reap the benefits later. I'm not planning on doing this again, but who knows, so I'd like to get the best results possible.
As for the A/C issue, I stand firmly in the rooftop RV unit camp. The price is coming down on them and it's a "One and Done" deal. www.adventurerv.net has 'em starting at about $400.00. You can get a heat strip as well, not huge 5000 btu, but probably all you need with all the insulation. See? Gettin' the benefits already.
Also, consider a good coat of Henry 587 reflective roof paint. I put a coat on Friday and the difference was remarkable. My trailer is white. but I could feel the reduced temp. from the Henry painted area vs the factory painted area. Totally worth the $40.00 investment. Easy application, too.

This is going to take forever!

Postby Camp Wags » Mon Jun 27, 2016 4:44 pm

It has been hot!!! :x I have been plugging away... it seems like I am hopping from one area to another not focusing on one specific area. Well I finished the insulation and taping :applause:

142952

Four inches; 2" between rafters and two 1" between furring strips.

142957 142958 142959

Water tank location over axles with slide out bench in front of sleeper will allow the sleeper to be king size with heads inside trailer.

142955 142956

Gull wing opens to allow for water and electric hook ups
along with an outdoor shower. On demand water heater
will go here as well.

142954 142953

Started the flooring with this rubber sound deadening product called "Peace Maker"
it can go on floors and walls between layers. I used it while building our dog kennels
and had some left over, so... It is thick rubber crumbs pressed into a sheet roll.

It seems like only yesterday I started... Darn, this is going to take forever! :?

Thanks ya'll

Camp Wags, Howdy;

Progress isn't measured by completions, more by accomplishments (imo). I think you've gotten
a great deal accomplished. That and it looks good as well. But then you are building to your needs
and wants not for anyone else, well except for the DW's. (She who must be obeyed  ).

Looks like you have gotten a lot done. The first part of insulating, wiring, windows etc seems to take forever because it all needs to be done together. You can't just get one little thing done and see the progress until you start to close everything back up. This too shall pass! :D

And I second the advice about painting your roof with the solar reflective paint. Amazing temperature difference!
