Plans similar to T@G Basic

Postby mahai217 » Sun Jul 17, 2016 2:14 pm

Hello,

I've wanted a teardrop for a long time and finally took my wife to an RV dealer to see a teardrop in person. She fell in love with the T@G Basic by Little Guy (I did not fall in love with the price). I would love to build one and have spent hours on TNTTT and other sites pouring through ideas, etc. My wife is fine with me building one as long as it closely resembles the T@G including the accessories, etc. I am a complete newbie when it comes to building teardrops (or any other trailer), but I am comfortable building things and have a garage to do so.

Here is a link to the T@G:

I noticed on their site they say, "This 100% aluminum framed camper trailer sports a silver or white fiberglass exterior with colored graphics." I've looked through TNTTT and haven't found anyone building with aluminum frame -- only wood and/or foam. Is there a reason for this?

Also, does anyone know of a source for the slick stove/sink combo?

I'm sure as I go forward I will have a ton of questions. I am thankful I found this forum. Everyone seems so eager to help out.

Thanks in advance!

John

Hi John,

If you use the search box (the longer one in the center of the header that says: Google Custom Search) and insert the words Aluminum Frame there are quite a few threads that come up in the search result.

Offhand I'd say it's not a common build method simply because there aren't a lot of people with the experience and/or equipment on hand to weld aluminum. Back when I joined the forum I could only find one active member who was building by creating his own welded tube steel frames. Thank goodness I was able to hire him to build my design for me or I'm pretty sure I'd still be working on it

I will agree on the price thing, It is good quality... but there were many things wrong with ours. You can find ones up for sale on the LG forum, might save you effort and a few $$$.

So you want one of those stove/sink things, Model o0911.... They were made by SMEV, an Italian company that was bought out by the German company Dometic. Not really available in the US and do not come with the piezo starter. You can find some RV stores that have the brand for sale. The HS 2320L is the closest model I found while searching for parts, actually has the piezo start and a ceramic coated grill top.

Also save up and get an ARB refrig unit not the Norcold. Get the stereo with the built in weather alert/SAME coding.

The T@G basic is the TD that I had based most of my features on , i.e. the tv, stereo, sink, stove pretty much everything except the A/C..I used the Generic Benroy plans that are available on this site and it's almost done. It's in my signature below if you wanted to check it out for some ideas..also I think the reason behind the wooden frame over the aluminum is the ease of building. If you have any questions please let us know .. TNTTT is a great resource and everyone here that I have talked to is really helpful/friendly

Thanks for the encouragement!

Hartk1213: I went through your build journal! Very similar to what I want to build. Can't wait to read more!
