As you may know I am just a bit fanatical about water quality based on our canoe camping experience. I just recently bought a new paired 10" filter housing with a Dalton Ceramic pre filter and a carbon block final filter. Compass Rose has a 10 gallon water tank and 6 gallon water heater and physically cleaning out the water tank would be very difficult so all of the water is filtered.
The last couple of days we were camping in Hocking Hills and I filled up at one of the sources on our way in with the filters attached. The Dalton filter (on the right) was clean and white when I started, and while this is likely silt it would get into and satay there in the water tank and heater.
So this is why you filter, and this is just the visible.
