My new tiny camper

Postby 2bits » Wed Aug 03, 2016 8:16 pm

OK it's not a teardrop or tiny trailer but I started on teardrops and I still have and use my tiny trailer so "I'm in the club" and just wanted to share my newest camper a 1978 Dodge van!

It's all original, bed in the back, ice box, self contained water tank and sink, I am ready for camping! I bought this because I have always loved these vans and I wanted to do a little more rural camping where it might be difficult to pull any size trailer. I bought a truck camper initially and it will be good for longer trips but it still tall and bulky. I hesitated on a "tiny motor home" because that means vehicle maintenance. I registered it as an antique so there is no inspection and registration is cheap and isn't every year, plus it's a two fer by being my weekend hot rod as well as a weekend camper. I will be doing some more customization to it to make it more "camperish" too.

Introducing the: "Slot Machine" (i.e. it has slot mag wheels)

The inspiration for my '68 Scotty tiny trailer came from these '70s vans where they separated the bed with a partial wall, so I plan to do something similar with the van but with a different shape or style. I am tossing around ideas now! Here's my Tiny Trailer!

Good Luck !!! We did a lot of van conversions and camping in the old days (late 70’s ) Vans work great , you can leave them outside , they don’t leak and they don’t Rot out in one season ...
There’s no place like Foam !

Thomas,

That is awesome! I had already moved on from the roost, but still remember my father's 1977 Ford conversion van. My parents and younger brothers took many trips in the van.

Take care,
Tom

HaHa. Reminds me of the 60's! Good times. Like "Skibbys Pie Wagon." One of the 1st. Used a 1950 sedan delivery.
Actually, used commercial vans are CHEAP, private, can be used for hauling bikes and for camping. Pretty "stealth". they make a lot of sense.

It "needs" an 'if this van's a rockin' don't come knockin!' Bumper sticker! Congrats it looks to be well cared for!
