Shower grate?

Postby noseoil » Fri Aug 05, 2016 8:25 am

I'm headed to Bonneville next week to watch the racing. I'm bringing a portable shower, but the salt is really sticky when it gets wet. Anyone have an idea for a plastic shower grate to stand on, or something like it? Something 24" would be plenty big enough, or even smaller would be fine.

Go to a dollar store a buy a cheap rug. Trash it when you are done with your trip.

DIY. Buy cheap furring strips at a lumber yard. Cut them to the length or width you need. Use webbing on one side to connect all the slats you cut. Like this, lay out the boards/slats leaving a slight space between, using two or three lengths of webbing, lay this over the boards and staple, nail and glue to the boards. You should be able to roll up the grate for storage.

It's ugly, but we've used a shipping pallet in hunting camp for a shower grate.

 I've seen others do the same. However, you could make one to the exact size you want out of the wood left over from your build and then put a coat of epoxy and polyurethane on it and call it good. Someone, here on the forum, made one that is hinged so that it folds up and takes less space; but, I can't find it now. StarleenII stands in a large round plastic wash tub and then dumps the water according to park requirements after he's done.

I am planing on using these. I like that they break down into 1 sqft for easy storage. http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/functional/17885/21957/

I use a plastic mortar-mixing tub from the farm supply store. Loves and Home Depot probably carry them also.

Home Depoe has 2 different sizes in stock - the small one is less than $6 & the larger one is about $13.

I found a fatigue mat at our local restaurant supply, like you use to stand at a sink. It's simple, easy to rinse off & cheap ($10). The other thing I might do later is get one of the plastic water heater base pans. It would catch the water & then it can be dumped out to keep the ground clean in that area. Thanks for the input folks.

Ikea sells a wooden shower base. I use mine with my trailer to cut down on crushed gravel coming into the trailer.

Be careful using any kind of plastic without a shower mat. Once the soap starts gathering in the bottom you are doing the funky chicken trying not to fall. Ask me how I know?

I cannot help but snicker over this comment. Of I were to fall in my small CT shower, I would end up standing up.

 :?

You know, a guy could put together a "mat" that would be almost completely water resistant using some of those plastic lumber 2x4's and ballistic nylon type cloth. Cut the 2x's the length you want and screw two long pieces of nylon, say 2 inches wide to each 2x4 with a short stainless screw. Flip it over. Stand on it, wipe it off, roll it up to store.

Not sure if this will meet your need but its portable, can be cut to size and is multi purpose. Makes a good doormat for wet or dry weather, can be rolled, does not absorb water or dirt. Quick dry. Probably lots of other door mat choices available too.
