New trailer build

I hit the nail right on the head with the width of my fenders too!! They are exactly to the edge of the tires.



I also got to the brackets built that support the table when it is in the dropped position and decided to bring up the cushions and mattress to see how things looked and felt.




I am just waiting on my exterior edge trim to come in so I can get the measurements for my checker plate trim. Then I need to finish shaping the table and buy the post and mounts for it. After that it's building the spare tire mount, painting the tongue and finish the frame wiring. Once that is done I can get it out of the garage for good and then install the fantastic fan.

Finally managed to get the trailer back outside today to take some pictures of the progress since the last update. I purchased some black trim with an insert molding for around the exterior edges and installed that a couple of months ago now. I figured out what I wanted to do with the checker plate aluminum and had my buddy cut some 0.062" for me and installed that. I have been trying to decide for months what to do to trim the top of the aluminum with and just couldn't justify the cost of more fancy aluminum extrusions so I just picked up some door edge trim from one of the local automotive shops and put that on. It's simple but I think it looks OK. A co-worker of mine suggested some steps for either side of the fenders so I drew up a picture of what I wanted and had my buddy bend those up for me too. It sure is nice to have friends in the right places.

Unfortunately there's a storm moving in so I had to pack up early. I was trying to get all the marker lights finished and then get the Fantastic fan in so it could finally get out of the garage but apparently that's not going to happen now. I'll try again later in the week when I have a day off and see if I can get that looked after. The only other things to do are get the brakes installed and wire, get the Jeep tow wiring installed as well as the brake controller. Getting close!!

Question for you electrical gurus. Can I use a body mount bolt to the trailer as a common ground point for my negative bus bar in the trailer and for chassis ground so my 12V charge wire from the vehicle will work? I don't want to create any hot spots but I think it should be OK. Input?

I would take the ground all the way to a frame member. That body bolt could loosen up or corrode due to contact with wood. Then you will chase all sorts of weird electrical problems till you think of grounding.

I like to weld a bolt to the frame and use it for all grounding. That's its only use.

I also make sure I have a good ground threw the trailer plug to the tow vehicle. I never depend on the trailer ball like a lot of people do.

This looks amazing! Great job!

Couple question/comments though.

Did you end up adding shocks as well or is it not that bouncy?
If it's not too late and you don't mind welding on your back, you should probably add some gussets if you're taking this offroad. It would be awful if your trailer's wood framing starting getting damaged from the trailer frame flexing. That spells water leaks
As for electrical, don't use the trailer frame for a common ground, run ground wires to everything. Especially if you plan on adding AC electrical in the future.

Like your build! One question though - isn't that silver connector supposed to come off the window trim ring when you install it? Asking because I just got what look to be the same windows in the other day for my build.
