D.I.Y Light weight sleeper using D.I.Y rail top components. Making my own profile of top rail. Will need to make one piece of tooling. This will be for a box trailer . Like the Weekender, Nano It will be 1320 Wide 2159 MM Long 1244.6 MM High. This will be for a box trailer with rear door. For the tooling. It will be the best to use something that has an inside curve with a flat bottom and side for tooling . Ponder a storage tub. The recesses will be 6.35 MM . Will use lot of photos.

What is fiberglass rail top modular fiberglass component framework? The simple answer is external framework pieces, with tabs. The tabs are at 90-degree to each other.

Think of a box. The rail top modular fiberglass components will be used to fasten top and sides together.

The best way to picture this is look at a You Hall trailer.

There are several places to buy from. What if you like to build a trailer where the external frame matches the top of your truck bed? Maybe you like the look of an external frame trailer. What I've done is use one piece of rail top .Cut it to the shape I planed to use. bonded it together ,Then blocked sand . I don't know why the pictures are dark .
The tooling dose not have to use a inside curve .Just easier

When making any tooling that need a 1/4 inch lip and using an inside are outside curve on the tooling. You will find the fastest and best costing is using this. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Woodgrain-Di ... /206178822

If you found a tub with an inside curve that you are planning to use as tooling. Using some sandpaper to rough up where the reset need to be placed. Using a glue gun. Glue the Lattice Molding where you need the lip to be. You need to add a filet on the Lattice Molding using some modeling clay. Using a dime coin. Runing down to shape the clay for a smooth transition. That way you do not get any air pockets in the gel-coat.

This Friday I'll start the tooling for the rear back header. The construction will be from a four-by-four Vinyl Fence Post cut in half. Using the inside curve.

You will be bonding all joints that will need to be blocked sanded. So why do you need a polished part? Just to rough up so body filler has bit.

The joints have a greater number of layers . I did a big mistake on the joints. Time was negatively affected. Will go in to detail soon.

The paint sticks will be the tabs you need for your finish part. The tabs are at 90-degree to each other. This is using dish washer tub

This is tooling for the Explorer Box /chuck wagon / hard cover for a trailer. If you look at the bottom . You can see where 2''-by-1/4'' has been added .This creates the tab for the roof. If you look at the top . There's holes for adding 2-by- what ever to make side tabs.
By using an inside curve of something that made will save time, cost. This the same as the so called "TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

do you have any sketches you can take a photo of. you talk in milometers
you say it will be 1320 Wide 2159 MM Long 1244.6 MM High.
we say it will be 51 31/32 in Wide 85 in Long 49 + in High. The calculator I found would not take .6 so I rounded up.
Here at the lumber yard plywood comes in 4x8 foot pcs.
I am putting in terms I can grab. mm is so much more exacting then feet and inches.
I am rounding off or averaging the amount.

4 foot 4 in wide x 7 foot 1 in long x 4 foot 1 inch approximately high . and we can google a u-houl.
Are you building the frame or buying or using an old one. If old inspect it very closely and fix what needs to be fixed now.

Using milometers I can count without removing my shoes .

The Rail top uses a side wall to add height . If you need a greater height . You can use on the bottom, through the center.

I've not chosen the style. As Rail top uses enclosed foam. There on the strong Side. So may install tilt-up roof in the back .That way I shall have standing room.

As I’m planing for this first trailer to be a very light trailer. To assist that plan. To use one door in the rear. The uses of wiley windows. Up in the air for the flooring . .If I should use wood are bound fiberglass, foam floor. At first thought was to use the SUPERLIGHT CHASSIS – WELDED. I have the desire of an offered to be sold

In the shop we have a TRA Panel Test System. I placed one rail top 12 inches in length that had been foamed injected. With sheet foam & foam in a can. With a 2.54-cm die. One inch. Received sounds at 106 pounds, bulging at 135, cracking at 157, failure at 186.
As I plan to be as detail that possible. After reading over three hundred pages over the last few months. Found very little about using the fiberglass rail form of building. Most were a never ending advertisement for some trailers. There was nothing about how the fiberglass wants to distort. Making the part it shelf .Use of rail top pieces as semi- monocoque compressive structure to build a trailer

TRA Panel Test System is a destructive test. Pressure is applied to one inch, then measured . Failure at 186 PSI consisted of the top tap moved a half of an inch. As the trailer is - monocoque structure .You should be able to install A 500 pound load on the roof

I have received the question . Can this form of building be used to do a more traditional trailer. Yes .Make your rail top from just two layers of 1.5 OZ mat. then cut reliefs . Then bend to profile you need.
