The Top Photo is taken at a place way up North at the Tip Of Finland named Nordkapp - or North Cape.

Second is taken in Eastern Finland named Saimaa.

Dear Rob - Kippistä meaning Cheers to you and all the fine folks on the T&TTT.

Ohhhhhh Well - Saunatime and then Swimmin... and after that a Refreshing - Lapin Kulta or Karhu Beer.

By the way - Lapin Kulta means Gold from Lapland
and Karhu is the Finnish word for Bear.

Ah, the Summer Solstice.... here is sunrise at Stonehenge on Wednesday:

Yes, it did rain on everyone waiting - this is Britain, it is compulsory....

The nicest pic from this selection is a Druid chatting to a policeman:

Explain this to a dumb American:

What the heck is a Summer Solstice? Is that when the sun is at its closest to the earth?

I'm pretty sure that a WINTER solstice is when the sun is farthest away, but the rays hit the earth at an almost 90% angle, making for WARMER temperatures. Or am I just having an acid flashback thinking this is the case?

Don't blame me for not knowing--I'm a product of the New York City school system.
Here we go again!

In the northern hemisphere that is. For our friends down under it's the exact opposite.

Hey, Ira, I'm kinda disappointed in you - you ask questions about the solstice, but not a peep from you about the Druids - the solstice and equinox* celebrations are their major events - they count as an official religion, you know, and have taken offense that you do not dignify their belief by making fun of it......

Andrew

* For products of the New York City school system, the equinoxes are when the sun is directly over the equator - they are about halfway between solstices, late-March and late-Sept.

Thanks Andrew...I always thought an equinox was a cross between a horse and an ox  but what do you expect from a Luddite? Doug
