Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Hey, got a question about your A/C install. I'm going to do a similar installation.

Instead of cutting an intake vent hole in the roof, would it not have been better to cut a hole in the side, say close to the bottom of the fridge. That way, air could have been drawn around the back of the fridge to the A/C intake, helping to ventilate the fridge as well.

Great thread, I'm going to use several of your ideas...

The fridge honestly doesn't even get that warm and it sheds heat over the entire outer surface. I would have had to create an air tight seal on the fridge as well to prevent inside air to be drawn in instead of air from outside. You could do that and have the AC draw air from below.. but just make sure it is sealed well from drawing air from the camper. Best of luck on your build.

A lot of folks are adverse to cutting holes in the roof, but these CTCs have metal roofs. If you seal well with dicor tape and Dicor self leveling sealer.. you will likely never have any trouble with the leaks. For me... this was the easiest way to mount the AC closest to the ceiling which is the optimal place for it.

I think I can do this! :)

I ripped 1*5's, figured out how to use the router after wasting a few practice cuts... and I built my first two door frames. I think they turned out decent. I am going to try the rest of them now. :thumbsup:

I still have to put some panels in as is obvious. I am going to try the beadboard paneling and the diamond plate to see what I like best and then go with just one theme. I bought the hinges and hardware last night. I'll post that on the finished doors.

First pocket screws and glue

Very first ever. Has a 3/8 in. beading on outer and 45 deg chamfer on the inner. Did the outer on the table router and the inner with a handheld trim router. I don't know if there is an easier way.

Image

Side by side. The second turned out better than the first... but both are good to me.

Thanks Martin. I got all the frames done except for the Electrical Cabinet. My plan is to paint them tomorrow and then install the panels and add hardware.

I need to start painting inside the trailer too so I can start mounting the cabinet doors. Should be ready by Monday afternoon to start that.

Got alot done today.

20 meters has been fair. My 20 meter hamstick mounted on my truck or trailer does really well for west-coast stations and into the mid-west. One of these days I need to set-up my 10-40 meter dipole at my new place and see if I do any better getting to the east coast.

flboy, Howdy;

So, ... you're sayin' you assembled them first then did the routing?
Whichever way you did them they look great!

Hank, I did the outside before I cut the frames. Then I did the 45deg edge on the inside after I assembled them. I didn't see how else to do that.

Here is a look at what I decided to go with mainly because of cost.. The diamond plate was too expensive for me. I still have to do the fine sanding and then I plan to spray paint a high gloss for the final coat. I am working on it. :thumbsup:

The hardware is just setting there. I'll put the hardware on after the final paint and after it has had a good chance to cure up well.

Done for the day. They just need to set up for a day for the final sanding and painting. It is a lot of work building cabinet doors! I learned alot.

Martin, thanks for encouraging me to do it myself. I'll get a lot of satisfaction knowing I built them myself.

flboy, Howdy;

Looks truly "Pro".
Think you generated some form of "Credit" with your spouse, probably make the other wives jealous
that their Hubbys don't build nice things for them ... Best be ready to offer assistance to some of
the neighbors ...
