RV Camper converter power box wiring ?

Postby rustytoolss » Mon Sep 19, 2016 1:46 pm

I may be able to get a free RV Camper inverter power supply system for free. Can anyone tell me how I would wire it up ? Or have a wiring diagram ? I'm sure it's overkill. But for free, not to mention it would power everything many times over.

Inverter or converter. There are lots (all?) of RV's that come with a converter system. That's the one that takes 120 VAC and makes 12 VDC and may also have a battery charger built in. Depending on how old the RV was it may be a very good one.

Fewer RV's come with inverters, the device that takes 12 VDC and makes 120 VAC.

I guess it would be a 120v to 12v converter. I'm pretty sure it would also have a charging system.

I think you need to be surer than a guess if you are going to plug something in, or permanently wire it into your trailer.

Is there a name plate with manufacturer or model number, that would be a start. Or maybe a picture of the front panel showing fuses/breakers?

We can't help you much if all we have to go on are guesses.

Your right. What I know is that the camper had 12volt interior and exteriot lights,/ and 110volt interior/exterior plug in outlets. Was plugged into shore power. And the 12v battery was missing. but everything powered up and worked. I will get the details soon. It also has car type 12v plastic fuses, and a breaker . In the interior power control box.

OK, I've got some details about the power system I got for free. It came from a 1995 Prowler 30R tow behind travel trailer. I could use a wiring diagram for the complete electrical system, if anyone can help out. Thanks
I have the power box which has 110v and 12 v systems. I also have the 40amp battery charger unit.

Many (most?) camper/travel trailers have a 12 to 12vdc converter. Very few also have a 12v to 120vac inverter. Chances are the unit you're getting for free is a converter. You might be able to find an owner manual online if you can find the brand name & model number on the converter. 1995 Prowler is a 'late' enough model that you should be able to find lots of paperwork about it online. Prowler may also have an owner manual with wiring diagram but that isn't likely. You might check to see if there is a Prowler owner forum & ask questions there regarding the converter... I think Prowler is now part of the Heartland RV Group, but in 1995 they were an independent mfgr??
