Hey listen I gave incorrect pricing on tires and rims for this C.T.

The tires and rims I got from northern tool.
$189.00 X3
minus $50.00 rebate at the counter. My head was :?

I am in the dog house. It had to be done. May put of this weekends foray. Friday looks hot at 87 unless they changed it. Timing the front. I am feeling the heat here regardless.

See, that's why I never drink beer for breakfast. Jameson and coffee, and a cigar. Breakfast of Champions! Beer is more of a brunch libation, in my opinion..

HAHA! I used to drink Irish coffee but it tears my stomach up. Bud Light is almost water. It helps dilute the 6 cups of coffee and you get the same affect. 8)

Man that cigar would turn me green.

Seriously I did want to add that those tires I bought were Radial and not two ply. Wall-Mart did not have 15 inch radial tire and rim combos. Northern tool did.

Just info. They are stout and nice looking with blue and red pin stripes around the rim. All white.

That's it. I am truly finished for this year I can tell you now.

Pics next week of the maiden voyage. I hope!

Some last pictures. Take care of your bearings. Got one full turn at least on each side plus like what seemed like forever pumping on the grease gun till grease poured out. All very Good. I know bearings if nothing else. I got Lucky Break. One more trip with heavy load, scored axel, Guarantee it. Thank You Guardian Angel.

So those bearings are the originals? That area looks a little rough, though I guess the salt air has quite an effect on any kind of exposed metal like springs and hubs. I see you don't have any chrome covers, I'm not sure how much the actually help but since they have the bearing buddys, I shoot some grease in almost every time I leave town. If you just keep pushing the dirt and water out they can last a long time, most of us won't put more than 7k-8k miles a year on a trailer.. I actually have the grease gun on board along with a simple tool kit. Air pressure gauge, screwdrivers ,wrenches, sockets, volt/ohm meter, 3 ton floor jack, misc. clamps and hardware and MULTIPLE flashlights and backup flashlights. And a fire extinguisher.
I see you have already made good use of the new shelf, very handy. There are a lot of things that don't really need to be stored inside.
I'm not in the know on the benefits of radial/bias for trailers, in fact I'm not sure which I have. What can you tell me?
Anyways, I know how costly these projects can get, not only money but time etc. You have to put a ton of effort out, and the whole trial/error deal can get old. But the first time that get to use your creation, it's pretty gratifying. I know you will be proud of what you have done here and all the obstacles you overcame and just how much you learned and grew.
I hope you keep in touch, and I'll be sure to PM you with my photos soon.
Enjoy that trailer, you worked hard and have earned it.

Mcdave,
Thank you so much. You are awesome. Love your posts. They make me smile!
I don't know tires so much so I simply said to the clerk, " heavy load, lots of interstate travel, plus dirt gravel roads. I want the best you have "
Radial Tire came out first.

I got lazy on those bearings. They are the originals. 7-8 years old. I never so much as jacked it up and shook the tire. Never even greased them. If it aint broke don't mess wit it. Right? WRONG. The axle nut was not even hand tight and there was slop in both axles. That will not happen again. No Sir. They are now hand tight plus a quarter turn and greased. What grease in them was clean and free of metal specks or dirt. Oh thank you trailer god. So Lucky.

So now I must put new rear shocks on the truck prior to leaving. The trailer jack drags on the drive way now. It never did before. They are really bad I just cant put it off any more. And so it goes my friends.

Tommy... the weather is getting good for camping. I still need to get my hitch all set up too. I bought a load balancing hitch with the anti-sway bar.. but I have not taken them out of the box. I also need to go down and register the trailer and get tags. I brought it back from Georgia with the temporary tag in March and it has been in my back yard being converted ever since. If the shocks don't do it for you. .. ask me about airbags. I put them on my old pick up and it made a world of difference. Installed them myself and they were not real expensive.

I am happy for you. I can tell you are anxious to get out there and use your trailer.

Added link to airbag install if interested.

Tommy B. Howdy;

Congrats on a job completed and well done ta-boot!

Word of caution about the Bering Buddy system, ... Great if there are no breaks
on the axle. If there is a set of breaks then you are best served by doing it the
"old fashioned" way. Many folks have discovered that just pushing the old grease
out the back results in loading the brake shoes with the old grease and then having
to either replace the brakes or use a lot of brake cleaner to remove the grease.

About tires ... for single axle CTs you can pretty much use whatever you want. When
it gets into the dual axle trailers the tires tend to 'scrub' (slide sideways), when
making tight turns. Well, the compound is different in trailer tires so that they can
deal with the scrubbing. Also there are differences in the side wall construction, load
and speed ratings. Generally, trailer tires are more susceptible to ageing from exposure
to the Sun and that's why you see most RVers using those tire covers. They also have a
life of perhaps 3 - 5 years before the sun and ozone in the air weakens the rubber
compounds. (stuff learned from 9 years of RV livin' and hangin' out on a few RV forums).
