torsion axle, silicone spray ?

My old pop up frame has a torsion axle. The axle is working fine. But since I have no idea of how old the frame is. Would spraying silicone spray into the torsion axle (there are some openings near each end of the axle) condition the rubber cords to extend the life of the cords. It's just a question, just thought I would ask.
I really don't think it would hurt anything. But I'm asking you guys. Would you try it to try to condition the cords (turn back time) ?

Don't know!? Was told there's nothing you can do except choose the correct weight rating, and don't overload it.

I would doubt that it would have any effect other than some minor surface lubrication and protection. The work of the rubber cords is done through the flexing of the internal mass below the surface and along the total length of the cords. It can't hurt anything and as long as the axle is working OK you should be fine. I'm not sure what happens when one fails whether it is a sudden thing or just a gradual sagging. My research on my old Dexter axle indicated that they are good for about 20 years. Since mine was 27 years old I decided to go ahead and replace it. A new axle is fairly inexpensive at about $300 including shipping. This also gives you new hubs and bearings.

I will say don't do it. The reason being, the rubber cords are held together by friction and the silicone may let the old suspension slip. I don't know this for sure but I have had plenty of ideas that sounded good but ended in disaster.
