Texan, I see you also have 3/4" solid walls on the Armadillo. Did the insert molding have a substantial overhang inside the galley when you used it to help seal the galley hatch. Can you post a pic please?

There is a slight over hang on the 3/4" walls. Maybe a quarter of an inch. I don't notice it. I honestly had forgotten about it until you asked.

Here's a pic. It's hard to judge scale though. I also put down some black butyl tape to seal the plywood edge and screw holes. You can see the excess that squeezed out.

Chubby was built for less than $800.00 so I cut a lot of corners. I had a garage door bottom gasket laying around so I cut it to fit and installed it so it would seal against the lexan overhang.

This post is excellently timed. I will soon be cutting my profiles for the walls. Okay let me see if I get this straight: I can use the t-molding on the lid to over lap the edge of the radius for the galley, and I don't need the offset notch, BUT to do this I need to make sure I get the correct Hurricane Hinge, and I can use a foam insert in the regular edge molding on the radius. Is that right?

If so, which hurricane hinge do I need, which edge modling, which T-molding, and which inserts do I need? Please include the source and part numbers if you can, this will really help me a lot! Thanks so much for this info.

I know this has been a while ago that you have posted this. But, I am trying to understand the use of the hinge. The link you sent showed this hinge .
I was wondering if you used the bar or not and if you happen to have a photo of your use of the hinge?
I am trying to figure out if there needs to be a little offset for the metal trim that would go on top of the edge of the wall that you would put the bushing in.

I didn't use the bar on mine. I just made sure the hatch match up with the opening edge.

I use the overhang T-trim method for my teardrops, too. I route out a bit of 2-inch deep wood trim that attaches the perimeter of the sidewall. It fixes the trim overhang issue and, in my humble opinion, makes it easier to fit the final door.
