Hey folks,
I thought I'd share my old camp stove I inherited from my grandfather. I think it was made around the 1950's or 60's. I fixed it up with a few new bits, and now it makes a fantastic little stove for motorcycle camping.




Runs best on white gas, but I've also tried gasoline and kerosene. Gasoline is fine, but leaves lots of soot. Kerosene will work, but it doesn't evaporate fast enough, so it tends to spit a lot.

She's a beauty. I get excited about gear like this. I have several pieces in my collection and what I've learned is, multi-fuel is for only in a pinch. That's it. White gas is supreme. Period. Other fuels will work but at a price. Soot. Carbon. Clogged venturi's and passageways. Stick to white gas whenever you can and it will live a long healthy life. Nice piece.

Those are super stoves. Your photos are giving me flashbacks to dinners and hot drinks cooked in the openings of snow caves. (No wonder I love camping out of a teardrop!)

I have that same stove, branded as a Primus model 30. I paid $60, a small fortune at the time, for it in 1971.

It's a good, light, backpacking stove. It heats a quart of water to boiling in almost exactly 4X the time as my Coleman propane stove, for which I paid $59 in 2005.
