Climateright AC unit

I searched and found no discussion of using a Climateright AC unit in a Cargo Conversion. Maybe I didn't do it right, but I expected you all would have talked about it before.

I'm thinking that the outside unit being just 15x15x20, it could sit on the tongue or even in a cage and only require two small holes to be drilled. It would be quieter than a window unit, less expensive than a mini split and more reliable than a portable.....thoughts? I am just doing a 6x12 so I don't think a ceiling AC makes sense at 13,500 btu's. I am looking at the 5,000 unit.

I had the first generation (PetCool) and it worked fine for about two years.

I haven't finished yet, but am "hacking" a window unit as a replacement.

If they new generation have resolved the reliability issues, then I would consider them.

I did the hack and the advantage is much less money and easy replacement of the AC part. I have a spare Frigidaire for that purpose, it would take me an hour or so to change out.

I think a climate rite would be too small for a cargo conversion. Even smaller RVs use 10k BTU in the smallest roof units I've seen. A 30 foot RV can have dual 13k units.

• As one can see, room (or trailer cabin) size dictates the size of the unit used, but these charts are for normal adequately-insulated homes, not most trailers and cargo conversions, where insulation may not be up to "home" standards. In my 4x8 plywood trailer's case, I opted for no insulation, feeling that I would be able to heat it or cool it to my climate range, without it. I can, using a 5k BTU LG window unit for cooling, and one (or two, if needed) Lasko My Heat personal heaters (200 watts each, or 682.4 BTUs each) for heating. I supplement the heaters with comforters and <20 degree sleeping bag, if ever needed (but not yet).
• The Climate-Right webpage makes a claim to cool/heat? 1200 square feet of space, which probably isn't possible (even inside a Yeti cooler).

• Your trailer is a 6x12, or 72 square feet floor plan, requiring a 5k BTU unit to cool, and about 3420 BTUs to heat (heating requirements of 42 BTUs per square foot-the average/middle ground spec from the chart above-). That would require a heater putting out/consuming 1003 watts per hour, to heat. Your needs can be met more cheaply, and better served by a simple 5k BTU window unit, and a standard 1500 watt electric heater (assuming the above climate range).YMMV

Yes, a house with no insulation generally only has one surface exposed to the sun, and the floor is usually insulated by the soil under it. The heat load on a small trailer is much higher. Even an attic with no insulation has R 24 equivalent insulation with a 4ft peak.

Cubic ft... you got to divide

So, say the ceiling height is 6'... 1200/6=200 sq ft.. a stretch but possible...

The Climate rite was designed for pets, so they probably assume less of a temp drop.

The interior of Compass Rose is about 400 cubic feet and the 5,000 BTU AC does the job nicely. A larger volume may well need more.
The 2,500 BTU pet cool was just not enough, scale up from there.

When I worked in an office, I had to carry 3 pairs of glasses. 1 (bifocals) for moving around in the real world, 1 for sitting at the computer all day, 1 (Bifocals) for standing behind a co-worked and looking over their shoulder at their computer. Plus I had a pair for motorcycle riding. And a few pairs of clip-on sunglasses. I guess I really need trifocals or progressive lens but progressive lens gave me headaches from trying to keep things in focus.

Can you direct me to the information on converting a Frigidaire to a Climateright style AC? The hack you mention?
