Another HF 4x8 Build with 5x8 floor with v nose

Postby Dan242 » Thu Mar 23, 2017 11:34 am

OK, finally getting to where I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wife did not want a door on the side, so made it on the back. 5'x8' plus 2 feet of nose so 5x10 I guess and 48" high inside. Extensions on back helps with Aero and gives it a bit of style, Panels on side help connect top to bottom and overlap trailer frame to hide it a bit and hopefully help with Aero also .Image Big Box store plywood with PL glue and screws. Will be able to put a Window AC unit in other side and have storage in V Nose, underfloor and under "back porch". Trying to give it an "old time" look as we go to Ren Fests alot . The rear 'window " opening will actually be a small cabinet to store coffee cups/ stove/ few other items. the outside door will fold flat to make a small table, call it a breakfest nook maybe. Will do most cooking on grill outside WIll be mounted on a HF 4x8 trailer , I moved the wheels back and extended the tongue on it.3rd rail only goes to first cross but has a 12" wide thick plate to spread the load. Underfloor box right behind it. Shooting for 600 lbs without trailer Image
[/img]Cardboardmock up was initial design till I started building and the extra weight and complexity made me change Image
You can see the rotisserie made at allow access to both bottom and top of frameImageImage

Cool design. Vardo meets 1950's futurism.

I have epoxy for roof, then paint. Sides will be primer/paint.

Thanks, I changed the design many times, as I was building, I often was not sure how the next step would turn out....You learn so much from the first one ;)

Looks like far from "just another HF 4x8" to me.

The design is great, and the somewhat boxy shape should fit well with a Volvo.

I too have to agree. Far from "just another 4x8 HF". Gypsy wagon meets George Jetson.

Cant wait to see what's next.

making progress
No pics as nothing interesting
Bought one of these to run to a power strip inside with circuit breakers
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N ... UTF8&psc=1

Bought one of these to mount in floor of V Nose to vent heavier than air vapors (CO2) Will put some more mesh on it to keep ants out
http://www.ebay.com/itm/301282020318?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

These will be the marker lights, pretty when lit

Made screens for my windows, really easy, used these parts, cut, snap together and Voila custom screens, removable

then spline and a tool
Bought one of these to run to a power strip inside with circuit breakers
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N ... UTF8&psc=1 It will mount in hole in fender skirt
Not gonna put glass in windows as we camp in warm climates, just will have wooden shutters on outside to close when rainy etc. We have a skylight and will have 3 stained glass round windows for light for when windows are shuttered

One of these to go under roof on back porch for rear door lighting, waterproof, switched, cheap :)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS ... UTF8&psc=1

Got a rear view camera and monitor, trial installed over rear doors, will prevent backing over a stump, bike or whatever, pleased with how well it works for the price, hooked it up to a small 12 volt battery and the monitor , now just gotta run the wire to inside the car . if I started over, I'd get a 6-8" monitor , but this is very cool for 60.00

camera

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019T ... UTF8&psc=1\

Rear doors are currently kicking my butt, but I will overcome, I think the plywood has warped a bit,
then figure out where to put Solar panels/ batteries/ lights/ fans and then run wiring, take it all apart, then prime/ seal/ paint and re install all, Geting closer but finding lots of little things.. as to be expected, When I used to restore old cars , our mantra was it costs twice as much and takes 3 times as long as you expect.

Inset this piece of stained glass in front panel. need to make some kind of a trim ring, it's about 8" in diameter/ any ideas?Image

Was able to paint some trim and sand off the top layer to reveal the leaf pattern... Image
Startin to get paint on it, using Sherwin Williams weather shield house paint. looks like good stuff. Window frames and shutters will be some shade of green, Wife is wanting it to look "Gypsy" So lots of bright colorsImage
Shutters will have a curved top when done

Nice build. How about using one of these for the trim ring. You can keep the cover on while you are traveling for a rock guard. I have used them for cheap skylights in food trailers. It is an 8 inch inspection plate for a deck. Trim ring on the inside and outside. About 12.00.

Bolted up a tow ball on my Buggy, Trailer took its maiden voyage to back yard. Still have wiring, rear doors, interior and a few dozen other small things. but it's able to be outdoors now at least. I have covers that go over window openings till I finalize how those will work. I really like how the overall shape of the trailer flows, might just be me staring at it for 2 bazillion hours, but happy so far.
