Here you go OP.

Cut 4 mm ply sheet to size. Put between hot, wet towels. Batten the sides to stop bulging in the middle. Staple and glue.


Tighten tie downs. Glue, clamp and staple ends on.


Done.


Will try to attach today.

Thank you both OP and KC Study for your advice about using epoxy glue some time ago. I wish that I had just spent $500 on epoxy at the start and used it right through. Once I got through the learning curve it is easy to mix and use.

Think that I'll have a break from filling and sanding today and tidy up some wood working.

Productive day yesterday.

Trimmed off epoxy and cloth stalactites from previous day's work with a razor blade.




Tidied the shed.

Dropped body back down onto the trailer a little further back to lighten the tongue weight a little. Was 35 kg our something. Now 20 or so. Need to order and fit mud guards and check that everything fits before bolting body and trailer together.

Fitted rounded lockers to the bedroom area.



Put a fascia onto the inside of the cabinet boxes and cut holes and doors from the kitchen. I hadn't decided whether the cabinets were going to be kitchen or bedroom storage but with the new lockers, we decided that kitchen storage was more useful.


Fitted boot lid.

Might carry on with sanding and filling for a while this morning. Also making a curved door for the toilet area is getting to the top of the list.

Away working in South island last week and not much to show. More fairing and sanding.

Built curved door. Hope that number two fits.

Tidied up router oops in kitchen.

Getting windows sorted. Will try building a cam action Wiley window variant. Idea works perfectly in my head. We'll see how well it works in practice.

Also wired lights and usb / 12 V outlets.

Design of caravan means that almost all electrical fittings are mounted in the bulkhead between toilet and bedroom.

Have been busy earning money in the last week with work on caravan where I can.
Need to keep pushing as in at the stage where it is easy to stall.

Just paint and tidying to go.

Any suggestions regarding paint? Paint shop tells me to prime, undercoat and top coat. Total of $750 worth of marine paint.

Others say no need for primer or undercoat.

Others say no need for epoxy paint.

Failing any other advice, I think I'll high build epoxy prime and one pot top coat.

Total area is around 20 sqm. At 10 sqm per litre this is 2 litres per coat. Paint comes in 1 and 4 litre cans so avoiding an undercoat could mean a cheaper job.

With work flooding in, over tidied the garage so that we can park cars in it again. Caravan is consigned to a corner for the time being. Realistically I don't elect to do much in the next month or so. List of jobs to finish is pretty small.

Back into it! Survived another busy work season. Door latches installed. Worried about them leaking and routing or the doors so painted inside with epoxy and then smeared fairing compound over the wood. Hopefully water will run straight out.

Sanded and washed bird sh** off outside and filled minor imperfections.

Time to bite the bullet and paint, otherwise I'll keep fixing smaller and smaller imperfections for ever.

I wish I was at that point. Unfortunately I have a lot more glass weave to fill and fair. Dam warts, they just keep popping up, don't they?

Having chased my tail with filling and fairing, I now understand what my epoxy guy meant when he said "slap a coat of fairing compound over the whole thing and sand her straight". My patching hasn't really worked as well as I would have liked it to. I should have troweled a thick layer on like he said.

Anyway, enough with filling and sanding. There are rivers to fish, chores to do and money to be made. Camping too.

And a new boat arriving in 3 weeks. Aim to be finished by then.

I've got out the roller and done a couple of undercoat layers. Think I'll go with the textured roller look.

I've altered my view - when I look at her I look at the achievements, not the imperfections. Anyway, the intention was always to build a fishing tool, not something for others to admire - not that there is anything wrong with that.

Looks great! The last time I read your build journal was when I was planning/just starting my build. When you're able to work on it, it seems you accomplish a lot and quickly.
