Camp ground lights

We have a couple LED lanterns and used to hang white Christmas lights till campgrounds stopped letting tents on electrical sites. Will probably go back to doing Xmas lights when we get our camper done.

I was using an LED lantern and assorted flashlights at camp (I have yet to fuel and light my Coleman Northstar lantern, bought in 2012 - the S.Central Group doesn't have the lantern addiction, I guess-), until I was lent a string of rope lights by 2bits. I immediately saw their value, being non-glare, waterproof, and I can lay them on the ground (I have an aversion to stepping on reptiles at night). Cheap, durable, and easily stowed away. Triple-winner.

We have a number of LED flashlights and one LED lantern. I am experimenting with a clamp desk light that just happened when I cut off the wall wart works just fine with 12V. The dependence on solar and battery when boondocking is one of the driving factors in not using unnecessary decorative... lights. The other side of that is that you miss things with light pollution. The time my son looked up when camping up in Canada and seeing the Aurora Borealis.

I don't like lighting up the area any more than is necessary. The darkness makes the sky light up like we never get to see in town. We do have a variety of Li-ion powered LED lights from head-lamps (with optional red light) through to pocket flashlights and a variable output LED lantern I made that get used when we need to supplement the available light or find something.

Converted after Christmas sale wally world battery lights, 3 AAA batteries are 5vdc usb so soldered in an old cable - campco teardrop lights for bulb covers

Of all the advancements in camping gear it seems lighting has come the furthest and fastest. A few favorites from the endless choices available. They seem to multiply by themselves in my trailer I am sure they are breeding when I am sleeping.

I bought a few Christmas solar landscape lights to help find my way around camp a night. Only $1 each after Christmas.

We have a yellow rope light that we put under the entry side of the trailer. and the people we camp with put blue rope lights around their tent trailer and screen house to show where the guy lines are staked. For walking around, I like the wind-up flashlight that never needs batteries.

My pet peeve is those people who seem to believe that it is their job to light up the whole campground. You know the ones... ...every outside light on the camper on all night, plus two swag lamps with 100W bulbs hanging from the awning, tacky lights under the awning, a flood light over the picnic table, and a 20 foot flag pole, and because they never lower the flag, two 150W flood lights. We were next to one of those people last season, and never saw a star in three days.

We camp at a state park with no power at the sites.
We have a double mantle propane lantern for food prep and eating dinner, we hang it from the center of the 10x10 EZup. After the dishes are done we rely on the campfire and those cheap energizer led headlamps.
Sitting around the campfire we each get a glow bracelet, which we hang in the tent or tear for finding your flashlight in the dark when nature calls.
We each have a LED tap light mounted on the ceiling of the tear for changing.
My wife and I each have a jump start pack to recharge our phones and cameras from over night. The packs have USB ports and a built in light.

I have a nice under hatch light that throws enough light if you are near by, and a few small battery powered lanterns, but that guy is basically built to go on an eazy up.

Real candle lanterns for me.

Some years ago we started using them and came to love them.
We bring a 5 gallon bucket filled with a dozen or twenty little glass candle holders, each with 18 inches of soft picture hanging wire attached.
Also a bag of tea light candles and votive candles.
We hang the lanterns from trees, put them at the corners of tents, put the bigger ones on the picnic table.
At sundown I light them, the cheap tea lights will burn for 3 hours or so, just about the right amount of time, no need to blow them out.
All stay lit in a breeze, some stay lit in a gale or downpour.

At night from down the road or across the lake our camp is a flickering cloud of yellow candle lights.
When it's a cloudy black night out in the boondocks the candle lanterns placed around work perfectly for finding camp and walking around without tripping.

We have a string of solar powered lights I keep forgetting to bring. They would have been handy last trip. I got turned around a little coming back from the bathroom in the dark. A few colored lights would have helped me find my way back in the dark.
