Don, if I understood it, they don't have a fix for the bad parts. Just a "safety", a inline fuse. But I can't even find that web page that had the stories

.
I'm running out of Data so I may have to run into library, to continue looking.
Scratch that looked today and my first result was it

.
This was the closest thing to what it is I've found.

I had three of these A/C units “repaired” on 12 March, 2017 by a technician from Pegsat Communications LLC, in Texas, I live in Washington State. For a couple months LG was trying to find a repair place near me to fix the A/C units but couldn’t. Then one day I got a call from a guy saying he could be there the following weekend. He showed up, did the repair work by installing an in-line fuse between the Compressor & Pump Motor to a Relay. After his work, he tested the A/C Units by turning them on and quickly turning them off as soon as they started to run, which wasn’t testing the Air Conditioning mode, just making sure the unit turned on.
I re-installed one of the units in a bedroom for the coming summer and tested it, ran the thermostat down to 62 and the compressor wouldn’t come on. Tried the next unit and the compressor wouldn’t come on. Called my daughter to try hers which was one of the three repaired and the compressor wouldn’t come on.
When the repair was done, I watched closely to what the repair dude did so I opened up one of the units, took out the in-line fuse he installed, connected the wires back to the original configuration and the compressor now works. I am an Aviation Electrician by trade so I metered the in-line fuses and they are bad. Now I have to get a hold of LG again and find out what they are going to do about it.
We never had any problems with these A/C’s and have used them for three summers now. I do feel that keeping the filters clean (as we do because of my COPD) and keeping the exhaust tube/window screen clear is a major factor in these units running correctly and not over-heating. So, I’m removing the in-line fuses on the units and I am going to use them as we always have until LG “repairs them correctly”. I’ll let you know what happens.
