Where are the pictures?

Postby sjptak » Wed Jul 05, 2006 5:49 pm

Is it my computer or what? For the last 2 weeks, I've been scouring the archives, the galley gallery and the photo albums of just about everyone here.

Why is it that in many of the archives, someone did post a photo of something or another, but all I see is a square with an X? Us guys doing a bit of research like to be able to see the pics about particular subjects. Anyone know what gives?????

Oops. Mistaken post.

I've been guilty of one thing that causes the dreaded red X to appear - I filled up my personal album space on this forum and so went through removing old photos that I posted a year or more ago - so now the posts that used those old photos will show red Xs.

But if you're seeing red Xs everywhere and not just occasionally, the problem is probably at your end - your security settings may be too high or your firewall or parental control may be blocking the photos. If you click on my 'Profile' button below and then on 'Personal Gallery of angib', you should see nine pages of photos - some may say 'no thumbnail', but none of them should be red Xs.

Andrew, I went to your gallery (already been there once) and no x's. It only happens in the archives of earlier threads. I can't figure it out.

Stan, essentially it is one of two things...on older posts, if the pic has been moved (ie: like Andrew stated) then a red x will appear where the pic was originally posted since the "link" that pic represented is no longer there(a pic posted inna thread is no more than a link to where the pic is stored)

The other problem is if your security/popup settings are set to high on your browser...if all or a majority of the pics have a red z, then it is a browser setting(most likely)...if it is only on occasional on older posts then that pic may have been moved/deleted from it's original location and the link is no longer pointing at it...in that case, all you can do is PM the poster of that pic and ask them to repost or send it to you...

IF YOU SEE A PIC YOU REALLY LIKE, IT IS BEST TO RIGHT CLICK AND "SAVE AS" TO YOUR PC that way you will be assured of having it in the future...

Stan, Like Andrew, I've dumped a lot of photos out of my album. So if you see a little box with a red X in it. Just send me a PM and I'll see what I can do to locate the picture for you.

Have a good day.

Thanks, guys. I'll look at the security settings when I get home. Gotta go make the donuts right now.

I never use the forum's album. I post pictures on my website and link to them from here. So you should see those pictures with no problem. Such as this one from the 4th of July Fun at Carnation, WA, last weekend:

You can check out more pix in my image gallery.

Mike, I couldn't get into your site until I figured out it is "blogical" not "blogicla". :) :) :) Real sweet. I love the cars.

I guess that most of the pics are just links to something that is no longer there. I have security set to medium, so I shouldn't be too high. I don't have problems in getting the pic on any recent posts, only those that are a month or more old. Soemtimes they are there and sometimes, not. Oh well. I'll just do the research sans pics.

Thanks

I use my own photo site as well, so as not to bog down the forum. I wanted to save the forum album for pics of my future tear.

Here's the family the last weekend of June at our camp.

Sorry Stan...in my case, I dumped the photo...it wasn't a serious tear build photo...some guy installed a "window shaker" unit in the rear window of an old Lincoln and had a generator lag bolted to the trunk with some L brackets...just a humorous one, thought people would get a laugh out of it...Doug
