yes, it is probably an easier run to Portland for you than Yakima being there is a big hill heading north - just as long as the run to Portland does not include another fire like last year which was a bad one. We (PNW Tearjerkers) returning from a teardrop Crawl heading back north home from after a trip around Hell's Canyon last Sept. came though stopping at Stone Henge, just south of you - there was a lot of smoke looking west. Got some good shots of 6 tears stagger parked in from of Stone Henge.

The Rattlesnake Ridge ordeal is looking like it could be a bad one which is located right at the choke-point just as you leave Union Gap southbound where I-82 and 97(with a river flowing along side) parallel each other - just east of the Ag. Museum. After seeing how the Oso slid happened a couple years ago just east of me a few miles here in western Washington - this could be another one happening the same way with a river at the base of the hill, everything coming down turned into instant mud, than it was like a tidal wave flowing over a mile eastward wiping out everything in its path.
