UPDATE: Hubs and Wheels

I was able to take some time last night to repack the bearings and reassemble the hubs on the axle.



Had to see the tires on to make the accomplishment more satisfying.



After I paint the top of the trailer, I'll install the fenders and the sub-floor not necessarily in that order.... then finally, some work with foam.

UPDATE: Fenders and subfloor fastened

Sorry it's been a while (almost a month!) but I have been working slowly on the trailer between 2 jobs, puppy and 3 kids. I was finally able to bolt the subfloor/deck onto the trailer this weekend with 3/8 carriage bolts. I also was able to affix the fenders to the side of the trailer. I do not have the wiring done for the lights and that is mostly because I'm not sure how I plan on handling the electrical. Now, finally, dare I say time for foam?

Also, if someone could answer the following for me, I didn't pay enough attention when removing the brake wiring. What color wires go to which side of the tail lights? Yellow/Brown wire is left brake light? Green/Brown wire is right brake light? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

UPDATE: Trailer Jack

Able to install the trailer jack and get some space cleared out of the garage for the installation.


I'm going to purchase a door. No time to make one now and honestly, sounds like the effort is a labor of love. Tho I'm handy and love customizing anything, I'm going to need some economical door solutions for purchase. Challenger seems pretty popular for economy and quality.

I built my doors, I got a challenger door quote on 30x48 doors,
$385 or $490 each depending on style.

I have $38 window, $40 in 5/4" spruce,$9 piano hinge and $12 locking screen door latch.
I trimmed it in aluminum that I had on hand.

Nice. The economy of making my own door is enticing for sure. My concern lies with my abilities and time constraints. If I can get a no frills model for around $200 i'll be happy. I want two doors but truth is, its just going to be me and puppy-face.

UPDATE: Trailer for sale

So as it turns out an opportunity arose and for $300 I was able to acquire a 1983 Jayco pop-up that needed nothing. Canvas in very good condition, everything functional, came with aftermarket awning and NEW propane tank with NEW regulator hose and NEW tires... What can I say, it was too good to pass up and will fit my whole family. So a large chunk of my budget has now been spent.

Anyone interested in finishing this trailer? It has new brake lights (temporarily attached), new wiring, new spare tire on old rim, brand new wheels, hubs have been repacked, freshly scraped and painted and has been undercoated. I mean if your looking to build a 4x8 teardrop and want to bypass all the trailer malarkey, here she is... just for you.
