Spring Branch Texas.

No we are not near Houston. The whole town consists of a gas station and a volunteer fire dept. I guess the best way to describe it is as a bedroom community, made up mostly of farms and ranches; although that is quickly changing there are lots of neighbor hoods sprouting everywhere. We are just far enough (North) away from San Antonio that we can see the milky way at night. Rush hour for me is a deer or two that might cross the road. Our closest neighbor is almost a mile away, so is the closest pavement. We live on a small ranch (next to a state park) we have 300 goats, 6 Llamas, 7 donkies, 9 pyres, 4 geese, and 5 chickens. It is very quiet. Oh and did I mention we are not near Houston.

Well we live in the Central Coast of California. The weather out here is great it averages 74 degrees all year round. We are known for our oak wood BBQ's and the meat of choice is Tri Tip. The ocean is about 10 minutes away. Oh wine grapes and wine tasting is 5 minutes away.

We like it out here.

Worcester, Massachusetts gave the world, the birth control pill, The famous 60;s radicalAbbie Hoffman (some folks wish Hoffman's Mom had been on the pill), Robert Goddard, inventor of the liquid fueled rocket, Harvey Ball, who designed the smiley face (this guy ) and last, but not least, Detroit Tigers pitching star, Mark "The Bird" Fidrych.

Worcester, living in Boston's shadow, has a negative self image. As long as I've lived here (all my life), the City fathers have been working on the next big project to revitalize the city's downtown. When I was a kid, it was the downtown mall, then they built a civic center, then a new Medical City, then the refurbished the train station. Now they're tearing down the mall to build something else. We have an airport built high on a foggy hill with no highway access. We joke that we have a mall without stores, an airport without planes, and a train station without trains.

That said, Worcester and the Central Mass. area is a nice place to live. We don't deal with Boston's traffic headaches. And housing while not cheap, is still more affordable than Boston. And the ocean is an hour away, and the mountians of VT and NH are less that 3 hours drive.

Greenleaf, Idaho...Named after John Greenleaf Whittier, the Quaker poet. It's a small farming community, home of Greenleaf Friends Academy, the second oldest private school in the West. We couldn't be Number One in anything.

We are surrounded by farms where they grow ....you guessed it, potatoes, among other things. Just down the road a piece the frozen french fry was foisted upon the world when J R Simplot and Ray Kroc made a deal to put them in every burg in the world. Along similar lines the tator tot is also one of our blessings to the world.

We get very little snow or rain, just dry dusty summers and 30 degree winters. Once every few years it does dip down to 10 below zero and will stay there for a week. Then back to 30 for the rest of the winter.

We, too, are plagued by people moving here for " a better lifestyle" but then they all complain that we are so backward and should be more like the California they just left. I wonder why they didn't stay there in the first place.

We enjoy wide open spaces. About 50 % of Idaho is NOT privately owned. There is plenty of BLM and Forest Service land to play in.

Come vist, stay awhile, and then be on your way.

Geez Loueezzzz...some of y'all don't appear real friendly...I don't know if it is the gators, moccasins, skeeters that can take a turkey flatfooted, 100*100%humidity days, hurricanes, monsoon rains or what but we have never had much problem with folks who are "looking for a better lifestyle"...heck, we could use some fresh blood around here...I mean, my cousins kids, are looking way too much like me

I live in the woods of Texas. It doesn't get cold here. about 50 miles north of Houston. Long commute but only have to do it 4 days a week. I don't live in a town. But ther's a small one about 7 miles. Great place to live.
I live on a small lake so I can fish or kayak anytime.

Tacoma Washington (believe it or not)

Never heard of it til the Navy sent me here, thought I was being punished! But then I looked around. I live in a diverse neighborhood, all blue collar where the streets are lined with cars at night and empty come morning. Neighbors close on all sides and on a cool night we stand out back and chat at the fence. Our town earned a bad rep years ago, but now it helps keep costs lower then most areas here. then, when the trailer is hitched I can be sitting on the beach looking at the Pacific, or high in the mountain ranges just as fast. We have camped near old farms and in a rainforest and never had to travel more then a few hours. I have lived all over the US and world, but ( I will likely get some strange looks for this) No place can match the people and community of Tacoma!!!!

Easton Pa, on the Deleware River and Lehigh Rivers. Lots of old farmland turning into overpriced developments for Nj and NY transplants. We live high on a hill with a georgeous view of 20 miles, country , but a short dive to major shopping areas. Bethlehem Steel was the major workforce until a few years ago, nice history of the Moravians and the best Christmas City. I like the all of the four diverse seasons we have ( except for the major flooding of the Deleware recently) To our west we have Menonites and Amish Farmland complete with horse and buggys, like a trip back in time. Thought about heading to South Carolina for retirement but the kids ( 30 29 and 23 are not yet married or permantenly settled yet) We have a small vegetable garden and love camping with new friends...this weekend off to Connecticut for a Teardrop outing.......yes pictures will be posted on return.
