Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Re: 6X12 SS&S

Welcome to the forum James. Sounds like you already have a trailer, what do you have?[/quote]

My trailer started off as a 6x10 or so pop up camper that got damaged in a storm, I plan on converting it to a flat bed utility trailer. I know it backwards from what you folks do here, but its what will be most useful to me. I just hope I could still hopefully get in on some of the fabrication discussions here, since there isn't a site dedicated to what I'm doing.

Hey Icon,
Do you clear coat the copper conduit and accessories or allow to age and patina naturally? Bright, clean, new penny copper is beautiful, especially in contrast with the color of your wainscoting, but aged copper has it's own appeal. The verdigris from chlorides is similar to your wall color.

I have been spraying it with some of this stuff:
I hope it holds up OK. It says it's good on metal. I guess we will see.

I got my half door put on my overhead compartment today.

Been looking for just the right hinge and found just what I wanted, hidden in a bin at Home Depot. :P
The built in closer works fairly well to keep the door closed, but I will probably put a magnet of some sort on it as well.

I do things a little bass ackwards I suppose. Windows are one of the first thing most of you do, but then again I still have no flooring either.

Steve, Are your 110 outlets surface mounted and what you see is actual depth? If so I would like to know more about the system with the wire chases, looks great.
Also regarding your 3-gang 12v switch panel...is it recessed in your wall cavity?

Yes the outlets are surface mount. They are Legrand Wiremold stuff. I picked them up at Home Depot: Outlet Box. Scroll down on this page and it gives all the sku for the series 700 parts.

The switches are mounted in the wood blocks, no ressessing. I probably should have a little, It was a tight fit and I had to do a little shielding to keep wires separated. This post on page 15 gives a good view of how I did it. The blocks are about 13/16" ish deep.

:applause: Nice job on the window. I was starting wonder if we were gonna have to send Don over there. He loves cutting holes in new trailers.
I put in a microwave as well. Didn't think I would use it much but I actually have. Are you familiar with Chicharrones? Or microwave Pork Rinds in gringo. Pretty awesome. If you can find the Hot & Spicey even better, or just hit em' with the chili powder while still hot. They are low carb so they gotta be good for ya.

Man, I really dig how that copper looks for running the electrical. I was going to go surface mount with EMT for my wiring, but this may change my mind.

Is there any downside, aside from cost, going this route versus EMT? Any safety issues?

I can't think of any safety issues that wouldn't be present with emt. But l did only run 12 volts in it. My biggest concern is if the clear coat will keep it pretty. Painted emt looks pretty good. Not quite like the real thing, but an option. Also I used the super thin wall stuff, it is less money! Can't wait to see what you do.

I probably will after i finish my utility trailer, and make some money with it. Need to replace the funds first. My best friend is interested in doing a joint venture on a CTC.
