We went to Yellowstone a few year back and it was snowing the 1rst few days. We had to run to walmart and get a small heater. 2 days later we were rafting and it was in the 80s

Weather is definitely variable in the mountains. I've been snowed on in August in Wyoming.

Had a half opened bottle of water freeze overnight in the jeep when camping in Colorado in late June one time.

Later in the season the Sun will warm the air into the 80's (We're closer to the Sun when in the mountains, don't ya know) right before a big thunderstorm sends the temps to the 40's in early afternoon. I've heard of folks catching hypothermia from that situation, if they don't bring the right clothes hiking.

And if you’re camping high up , beware of sunburn … When we used to camp up at St Elmo , it was close to timberline and we’d sunburn pretty easily ...

Yes, I always pack for the weather. Not sure why you wouldn't.

I prefer to colder climates. When I was sleeping in the CRX in the Smokies, I woke up a few mornings with snow covering the car.

Over 80 and I'm hiding in the shade with plenty of yellow water (beer) and a nice breeze.

Gee guys, come down to Tucson & camp in the summer, not too cold even at night! Lows in the mid 70's now at 4:00 am, highs, well let's just say you won't need a jacket...

We went to Sugarite Campground last month (12 miles east out of Raton, NM on state route 72). It's at about 7800' & we had rain, hail & snow one evening, so weather can change fast at higher elevations. It was low 40's in the morning. Nice campground, lousy road in for 2 miles in the dirt. Worth it on top, Steve & Shirley are the hosts this year. Great folks & beautiful area. Bring warm clothing for coffee!

Even at 12000feet water boils at 189 F; too hot to drink. But pasta, rice or potatoes sure take longer to cook.

I screwed up 3 minute eggs once while camping at 11,000 feet. I live at 7500 ft, so you'd think I'd realize that.

Also, I blame the altitude for any huffing and puffing I do on my annual hike each year!
