Mr Heater vs Propex HS2000 heater

Mr Heater Buddy space heater $70 (4000 BTUs 2 speeds ON and OFF). Ventilation required.
Compared with the $900 Propex HS 2000 (6500 BTUs) Forced Hot Air heater with thermostat and no fumes and no propane combustion water vapor.No ventilation required.

Sorry no below freezing tests yet due to Mother Nature not providing cold weather yet! Will update as it gets colder.

Nice comparison. One more thing about the buddy is the fire danger if it gets too close to flamables. I like the lower cost Chinese diesel parking heater(for those that want something a little lower in cost) They are fully vented small in size and cost less than $200.

I burn Kerosene as it burns cleaner(less smelly) and will result in less maintenance.

I remember seeing 5 gallon containers at Manards. When I was living up north I knew of a few gas stations that had kerosene at a pump.

I like the Propex heater just not the price. I saw a review on the one of the diesel ones and the guy liked it but if it sat for more that a few months without being used it wouldn’t work. And would need to take it apart to clean. He said if it ran 20-30 minutes every months it was fine. I don’t see me doing that. KW have you had any problems?

Anyone know what the elevation max is on the Propex or diesel/kerosene?

I have not had any problem with mine. That is why I burn kerosene. It just burns cleaner. I would say it may burn a cup on a very cold night. Not enough to even thing about. If you can not find a pump most hardware stores have kerosene for space heaters(super clean).

Whole point if not propane is to use the vehicle fuel. Would not carry a third type.

Webasto and Espar have gasoline, dunno if those available as cheaply.

For Propex questions that Westy source above is canon.

Details specs and mods are available for altitude issues.

Some need manual adjustment, others an add-on to automate it.

I've been looking into heaters more and found some good info.

If you want to heat with gasoline it is possible but it come at a price. The only one I found is a Espar at 13,000 BTU's (probably to big for a teardrop) at about $1,600USD. If you are going to use it above 5-6,000' add another $300 for a high altitude kit.

Diesel heaters will build up carbon above 6-7,000'. The Espar has the high altitude kit that will give you up to 4'000m a little over 12,000'. The Webasto can be adjusted with flashing the board but they say max doing that is 7'000'. Espar and Webasto are in the $1000 range.

I haven't been able to find out if the cheap clone diesel heaters have any adjustments for altitude. My guess would be no.

I have two emails to Propex but haven't heard back yet. I have read that 10,000' it worked fine. Very cold temps (0 degrees) and altitude were problems.

There is a heater like the Propex coming to the US next year that looks nice Truma VarioHeat eco. But they look like they will be $1100 without installation kit.

Bottom line, if you want to stay toasty warm at 10,000' or above you are going to have to shell out some cash for it.
