Has anyone used this product for sealing under your camper? If so what's the best way to apply it, how many coats and how well did it work. Already bought the stuff just trying to get some feedback. Thanks.

I've used it on the underside of the floor and also on the deck of the enclosed trailer I use to transport my motorcycle.

Applied with small (3 inch) roller. Goes on fairly thick but does not seem to penetrate well, but it does repel water. On the underside it works well for that purpose. I would not recommend for any area with standing water.

Folks started using asphalt based products for weatherproofing the bottom of teardrops about 1945. Perhaps in the '30s too. They did this since it worked and there weren't a lot of choices.

But this is 2018 and there are a lot of better choices ––in my opinion. A thinned oil-based polyurethane finish topped off with either a full-strength coat of poly or a coat of oil-based paint will work fine. The best method is to epoxy it.

I can't envision myself using the black goo on my next build.

That goo is time-tested. It'll work fine.

I used it on the underside of my teardrop. I was very pleased with the results!

Have use it on both of my tiny house builds.......







The floor on the caboose was painted in July of 2012. I am ashamed to admit it but the finished floor is yet to be installed and it is still holding up well in traffic. I will say it does take forever to dry to where it is not sticky (4-6 days)but I am very happy with the results.

Hi

I would like to make a case for spending a stupid amount of money on the underside.

My base board is 3/8" Indonesian hard wood ply painted with International Paints- Interprotect Primer and top coat Perfection,They are a 2 pack polyurethanes Hardener/Resin
Chemically resistant to diesel, petrol, oil, mild acids and alkalis. However at £55 for 750ml ($72 for 1.3pints) for the top coat and £35 fro the primer, eye watering expensive.

Perhaps its because I live in rainy temperate England, as timber rots while you look at here. OSB rots quickly here even painted treated and sealed.

( re: wet climates ) The only thing that ever worked for sure around here ( the swamp ) was something that penetrated deep into the wood and encapsulated /waterproofed the little tubes within … “ The Mix “ … Then a good coat(s) of the BNS ( black nasty stuff) and you are good for a long long time … We always felt the BNS was best for preventing rock /road/FOD damage to the underside …
And then we found “Drip Edges” which channel all that water down PAST the floor so the only thing the floor ever sees is some minor splashback which drys quickly .

Re- The BNS

I have had a rethink. The smell is can be a game changer.

1. Here in Europe there has been a 10yr push to remove all paint which is hydrocarbon based. Most products are now water based even fence paint.
I recently wanted a floor varnish, so I was on the search for an oil based stinky hard something but ended up having to use water/wax based coating called 'OSMO'
so far its standing up so who knows.

2. My wife has a real problem with smelly paint so the Creosote like tar based things do not go down well. Any glass fiber work I do, I use an epoxy system because of the low smell.
