Adding a cargo door to an Avion trailer

I've been looking for a cargo trailer to convert for double-duty; mostly cargo, some camping. I came across a 1974 Avion trailer that's half the price of a cargo trailer; it's been emptied, with the walls/floor/ceiling re-finished. So now I'm trying to figure out if it'd work for me.

The trailer is 8x31ft which is a good foot wider and 11ft longer than I've been looking for, but I might just go after it if I can fit it with a door for loading cargo (probably in the back). Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for adding a large door to a trailer like that, a 36"+ RV one or double doors?

Seems like a bad idea structurally.

I like Avion trailers. Had one and an Airstream. The Avion was better.

My main concern would be that the trailer is not made to handle such a door structurally. Given the age of the trailer that issue the problem is made worse.

It looks possible though it might be a big job. I would install stout reinforcement around the new opening and built the door to be light.
A drop down ramp style door hinged at the bottom would put the least stress on the coach body.

The back of an Avion is not flat and not square so the complexity and hassle jumps up to a higher level.
To keep that beautiful vintage Avion curved appearance would be hard work to match the curves.

If you are not worried about appearance you might consider cutting the curved end cap off completely and building a flat back wall with doors.

Yea the structure and keeping the trailers lines were a concern; it'd need to be a professional job. But I spent two long thinking about it and the trailer got sold, so don't have to worry about it now!
