Looking great Wayne..
Several things that I like about your build,
The trailer, off road capabilities, with the running board sides..
The planning you took, before you started it.. (the lower storage).
Ability to work on it, on or off the trailer.. then finish it and attach to the trailer..

Following your build, Tom's (Silver Beetle), and Tony Latham's.
Has showed me, that the best way is to build the cabin.. off the trailer.. IMHO..
Which I need to remember if I ever build another one..
Myself having limited space, it would have been the way to built ours..
(not having to work over and around the wheels).

It was a productive week getting the remainder of the exterior cabin epoxied. I will rough up once cured and start getting the Raptor liner applied.

The last couple afternoons have been super productive on the S.C.A.T. I was able to get the interior and exterior sprayed with Raptor Liner. The interior is white and the exterior is Avalanche.

Everything masked off to spray the interior...


Placed a furnace filter and box fan over the hole where the fan will be installed. Worked great for airflow while spraying inside...


Didn’t get a picture of the inside yet but here is the outside so far. I still have some liner to hit a couple spots with another coat...

Do you like the way it applied and the texture?
Is it a smooth bumpy surface?
Or does it have spots in the texture where dirt and dust can build up?
Can you show a close up picture of the texture when you get time, Please?

I like the finish. I applied at 70 psi. The longer you wait to spray the more texture you get from it setting up. It may catch dust easier than flat but I think it will wash easily. One could spray the first coat and then roll on subsequent coats for a smoother finish.

Pulled the tape off tonight and grabbed some more photos with the poor lighting. This color on my truck changes shades based on the light hitting it so it will be interesting to pull it out in the sun. Thinking about adding some accent stripes so it’s time to play in paint on the laptop. So close yet so far away.

I had a bit of a setback. I went to work on the SCAT today and noticed some runs in the finish. Looked closer and there were runs in the epoxy showing through in the liner on the driver side. Of course it’s only visible in certain light and you can’t feel it running your hand over it. A darker color may have been more forgiving.

Now the big internal debate on if I could live with it knowing it’s there. Short answer is no so after brain storming some possible solutions ultimately decide to bust out the 6” air disc sander with 40 grit and start smoothing the finish.

With every setback I try to think of a positive. The positive I see here is I get to do some durability and adhesion test of the Raptor liner. I’m glad to report the liner is holding up well and it stuck to the exterior very well. There was no flaking of the finish as I sand it and it is taking a bit of effort to sand smooth.

I don’t know how paint would adhere. I would have had to run some tests if I decided to go that route but after playing with some designs on the computer I think I am going to leave it solid. I may come up with a metal plaque to cut out on the plasma table I can apply to the sides if I feel it needs something. I’ve seen videos of an individual using heat to apply vinyl decals with good results.

In Raptor information it says any auto paint can be sprayed over it. just need to do a light sand with 180-220 grit.

It’s been slow going on the SCAT lately. I haven’t really spent much time on it. I need to get refocused. I did pick up a new vehicle to cruise around the campsites and cities we visit. Anyone else Onewheel? It’s a blast!

Slowly knocking things off the list. Currently working on the electrical. Here are a couple pictures of how it sits today. The white climateright ports on the front are just set in place. I need to paint those black before installing permanently. The stainless tongue box will get a couple coats of black Raptor liner also.
