Bee's.....Help!

Postby elmo » Fri Jul 14, 2006 1:30 pm

Good Afternoon All!

I have a issue with bee's. It hasn't rained for awhile so I haven't been out to the back shed to get the lawnmower out for awhile, anyway some bee's decided to start building a hive in the doorway. It is about the size of a softball and they don't seem to happy with me.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My first thought was poke it with a stick and run screaming like a girl, but I started remembering the cartoon's and thought otherwise. (and I didn't mean to offend any girls, but I have been bitten by bee's before and some pretty high pitch things come out of me)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Elmer,
My last house had an old chicken coop on the property where black hornets liked to build nests. They usually got about the size of a basket ball before I noticed them.

I used a product specificly for killing hives. I think it was a Black Flag product but I'm not sure. The local hardware/garden store carried it.
The product comes out in a long thin spray so you can keep your distance. You start at the opening of the nest and spray intil it quits buzzing. Any bees escaping the nest will drop on contact with the product.

Just be sure you wait and do it in the evening after all the bees are home for the night.

I've used that stuff and it knocks them right to the ground.

Take a stick and just bash the dang thing. They're not going to come after YOU.

But make sure your wife has the video camera handy:

In case they get mad, I want to see all of those bees getting together in a giant formation, forming a huge arrow, and stinging you right in the rear all at the same time.

LIKE IN THE CARTOONS!

Come on, Elmer--PLEASE!? I gotta see this!!!

Is it really bees or is it yellowjackets? There's a spray for yellowjackets that works really well. A yellowjacket nest looks like it's built out of paper.

The cost to hire a professional exterminator my not look so bad compared to the cost of a trip to the emergency room if you were to get attacked. People die every year from bee stings. I've always dispatched them myself, but I am becoming less willing to do so with each passing report of someone with hundreds of bee stings.

You could try it if you have a buddy to help. Then, you don't have to outrun the bees--just outrun your buddy!

Definitely don't try this way: http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2002-30.html

They're not gonna attack you! Trust me!

But just make sure your wife has that camera ready.

I think I am off to Walmart to get some Black Flag stuff and a 3xl Winnie the Pooh outfit.

Sorry Ira my wife won't be home until later otherwise I might have just tried your idea.

I figure I have German Shepard I can just make stay by the door until I am clear. Oh who am I kidding....my dog doesn't even come when I call her and I think I might be the slow one in that situation.

I had a wasps nest in the backyard a few years ago. Never a big problem down here, because they're smart enought to stay away from this heat.

But yeah--that stuff in the can kills them all instantly.

Then you only have to deal with their GHOSTS.

. . . and don't forge to press the record button before you walk toward the hive.

I'm allergic to wasps and bees...so I am always careful (and pretty much scared to death). Get some wasp spray...shoot it from around a corner...and run like h***!!! I find that evening or early morning is best when they aren't so active. Works for me!

Well I am back from Walmart and have my Raid Wasp and Hornet killer. It sprays up to 22 feet. Made right here in Racine, Wisconsin. Looks like it should work well as long as I don't spray it on food or a fish aquarium. It kind of makes you wonder what happened to have to put some of these warnings on the can.

No Winnie the Pooh costumes  ...there must be a outbreak of beehives. I did find a French Maid one that should work just fine. Fishnet stockings should keep the bee's off, right?

Now just have to have some Corona and wait until they go to sleep.
