This coming weekend I will be cutting the walls. I have 3 sheet of 5x10x3/4 baltic birch plywood.

If anyone has any comments/suggestions please make them now!

Why the huge round door, and how do you plan to seal that door. Lots of stress on those two hinges. I see lots of problems with the door design.

At first glance, I kinda dig the whole Hobbit Hole vibe going on. But then reality kicks in and I have to agree with Woodbutcher... sealing that hole will be a nightmare, unless of course you know something we aren't seeing. I opted for all pre-manufactured windows and doors, specifically to eliminate any headaches that come with the trial and error that goes along with fabricating something from scratch. And even with that, I still had minor issues. You would be amazed how tricky water can be

I agree with woodbutcher.
What about getting in and out of the door opening?
With the opposing radiuses on each leg, it won't feel good.
It can be a challenge to seal a regular door from wind driven rain, let alone a round one

Go lay on your bed. Now sit up and swing your legs off as if you’re getting up –but stay put for a moment. Think about how you are going to rotate out of that opening.

You get in and out of a teardrop in much the same way that you do your bed –not like going down a rabbit hole. That door is a problem.

The profile doesn't look too bad, the door will be interesting to seal up and where your galley would be looks like it doesn't have a lot of space. Are the sides going to be a full 5' tall and 10' long? What's the diameter of the door? My eyeball gauge, assuming a 5' tall wall is that your door has a diameter of about 40". Do you have an extra set of those hinges available? I'd move the existing ones and add a third in between the upper and lower. Set them up so that the pivot is several inches forward of the hatch opening seam. On the top and bottom hinges, where it attaches to the door, you will only be able to use two of the three holes in the strap part, which is where the middle one comes in. Moving the hinges forward *should* help a little bit with the sealing of the hatch, the hatch will close more flat and be less inclined to pinch the rubber seal. A circular door isn't the direction that I would go, I think it's too much form over function.

Your latch will be a bit of an issue as well. I would steer more towards a hatch dog similar to what they use on sailboat hatches. The problem is that most of the ones you can get nowadays are plasticky and wouldn't really go with your hinges. You might be able to find something vintage out of brass or SS, but they still won't look right to me with those hinges. All the dogs I've ever seen were meant more to be functional and not aesthetic. It's also possible to link the dogs so that you can have multiple tabs to hold the hatch closed from the inside and all activated by one on the outside, but those can be very finicky when done in steel...I'm not sure I'd take on the challenge of doing it in wood.

saw this 'round' door setup a few years ago at Shasta that looked interesting - looked very adjustable and looked to be very well sealed. The door hinge was 'Heavy Duty" !!

I got this door shape to seal. If you love the round you will get it to work. I agree with doing the leg swing test though. I used that to figure size and position of the door.

The dark outline you see in the first picture is some 4mm ply attached to the inside of the wall and overlapping the opening to give the door something to close against. I have a thin piece of rubber weather strip glued to it so a seal is formed when the rubber is squashed between the door and the extra ply "jamb"
