Hinge Advise

Need to order my hurricane hinge for the pantry.

I have no idea which style I need.

It all depends on how your hatch sits (flush or raised) with the rest of the body.
2 and 3 are basically the same. 3 looks like it has a spacer.

It depends on how you are constructing your hatch. I build a Fredrick's style that is the same elevation as the roof.



So I use the second one in your photo lineup.

As far as the second two hurricane hinges, it depends on your hatch design. Check out their images in the link below. If I'm not mistaken, the hinge in your first image is just a different style joint, and designed for a 1/4 roof to hatch offset.

Well then..... what hatch design would you recommend as the easiest vs best.

I was planning on it being flush.

BTW: The prices are about $70 on the Tear Drop Trailer Parts website. Is that a good price?

That's a tough question. I've only built one way. Are you using sandwiched walls?

I went with a 3" aluminums piano hinge and covered it with EPDM rubber roofing.

In this photo I haven't finished trimming the rubber yet.



The hurricane hinges don't seem very heavy duty for me running mile after mile of washed out dirt roads. And I am more after dust proof which I'm not sure of with a hurricane hinge.

I don't get dust in my galley and we do many-many miles on dusty roads.



Perhaps it is just too high to be exposed?
