Propex Heater Test Fire

I purchased a Propex heater for the coming build. I really wanted to know how warm the housing got and how noisy it was.



It was 35º outside and was putting out heat at 180ºF. I can't imagine that it will take more than about five minutes to preheat the teardrop.

The housing stayed cool to the touch. (Propex says it needs 1" of clearance.) I tried it with and without a cheap $12 muffler I got off eBay. Without the muffler, it kinda sounds like a dog's low growl. The growl goes away with the muffler. Maybe I'll leave the muffler off where grizzlies make things go bump in the night

The fan makes noise but the unit will be installed behind the bulkhead in the galley and I'll be purchasing noise reducing ducting from Westy-Ventures.

Heat, it's a good thing. And I think these are damn good heaters.

I really liked everything I read about those. I just couldn't swing the price. Out of all of them, I think the one you have is the right choice!

No kidding. Fortunately this was brand new in the box but at a greatly reduced price from another builder.

They are stainless, made for diesel cab heaters and seem well built. I wouldn't have tried it but Westy Ventures (a Propex dealer) was using one on their Facebook page.

I used one of these silicone couplers and two hose clamps to connect it.

I am planning on putting one of these in my Casita eventually. I like dry heat. The moisture in the conventional furnace was a big detractor for me. In the meantime I'll just use the same cube I use to heat my teardrop. I'll probably also continue using the teardrop more in really cold weather anyhow. Thanks for the good review.

I will be calling Westley-Ventures Monday to order the acoustical ducting which they say lowers the sound level "to a mere whisper"! I was unaware of the noise reducing ducting. Great idea. - Thanks Very Much!

I did find a video about the muffler. This guy is using a lawn mower muffler. I have not found the noise to be annoyingly loud outside. But then I am inside! Let me know how your muffler works out.
