Hi

Re coke and acid, Coke as a very similar Ph (acidity level) to your stomach acid, they did a test years back in 220 Triathlon magazine and found that (at that time things may have changed) for an energy drink when running a triathlon Flat coke Hydrated you and got sugar into the blood stream faster than anything else.

Unfortunately flat warm coke is not that apealing..........

But myths aside water is better for you than coke.

chicken bone in vinegar is a good science experiment for circa 4th/5th grade kids IMO.

wish "homeschoolers" would indulge in things like that instead of trying to "disprove" science with religion.

Hey, on that flat carbonated beverage trick... wouldn't the "belch back" factor tend to slow down the runner? But then again, during the swimming phase add bouyancy and propulsion?

ah, never mind, I just woke up from a nap and I'm being goofy again :? >

I would think so, but I've noticed that at the tops of some climbs in this year's Tour de France several riders are drinking Coke straight out the can - and they appear to be working the ring pull, so that wouldn't be flat.

Me no understandee.

Laredo,

Im not sure where that remark came from.

I am Christian, a scientist, and a homeschooling dad. A remark like that is offensive and certainly not based in fact. I will admit that there are some homeschooling families that are off the mark, but the majority excel in all areas of education, science included. Kids that have been homeschooled routinely score above the national average on the SAT. I can promise you that homeschoolers are not trying to disprove science.

Hmm. Curious about your view. Many of the young people I know from our church are home schooled. They are taught a real science curriculum. Proper enough that many of them are, or will be attending college with full scholarships.

We know how the sun works. We also know who put it there.
Knowing Christ doesn't mean we throw our brain in the trash when we open our Bible. Because we teach our kids using Christian principles doesn't mean we ignore the natural world, the science of it's workings, or physics. Heck, God invented physics.

Kind regards,
Dean (no, not that Dean. The other Dean.)

Even if the coke and water myths are wrong, the fact is that there was a study on how beverage influence the obesity of america and it was found that in many cases that beverages such as soda and other drinks usually contribute to around 50% of the weight problems most people have. I forgot where I learned of this study but I believe it, I used to drink a few liter a day (wal-mart has a realllly cheap 3 liter bottle of soda for only around 56 cents) until a few months ago when I had to move out onto my own and got into some tight financial situation. Since then I've drank water all of the time and lost alot of the weight and have never felt better in only a few months.

Most doctors will tell you that the quickest way to lose weight is to cut out all soft drinks, diet pop included. I know that in the summer when I drink more water than pop I lose quite a bit of weight no matter what I eat.

It's because of all the High Fructose Corn Syrup in the soda. This wasn't as much of an issue when they used cane sugar. The Dr Pepper bottling plant in Waco still uses cane sugar. I haven't tried it yet but people swear that it tastes better.

Just keeping the HFC conspiracy alive.

honestly i think that thw wal-mart dr.thunder (a dr.pepper rip-off) taste much much better. and for only around 56 cents each 3 liters bottle vs a $2.50 or so each 3 liters bottle of dr.pepper makes it better anyway.

Wanna earn 10 bucks at the bar and amaze your family and friends?

Ask your bartender to take 3 rocks glasses, and fill one with Coke (or Pepsi), one with Ginger Ale, and one with Sprite (or 7-Up). Then have someone close their eyes, taste the first one, and have them tell you what it is. And continue the test.

You can have them test A, then B, then A again to trick them, because that's where it gets to be so much fun. And 95% of the time they will change a previous guess. (This is as after they previously told you that you were NUTS--that of COURSE they could tell the difference in an instant.)

No one, and I mean NO ONE, is ever 100% correct with this--and I've made a FORTUNE betting on this over the years. It works best when you don't give them the Coke first, but it always works no matter how you do the test.

You would think that with 3 such distinct and different flavors, that ANYONE should be able to tell the difference, but part of the "trick" is how our sense of sight affects our sense of taste. Also, it's either the carmel in all of these drinks, or the caffeine, or the sugar that we actually taste. And the formulas for all 3 are REAL similar.

I don't know how this works with bottled/can products, only from a restaurant's fountain gun. So it may be the fact that all three run through the same hose that makes it all work.

[May one of my former bartenders Bob-O rest in peace for showing me this.]
Here we go again!
