One of the old-timers that I learned to love MORE as I got older was W.C. Fields. I have some of his stuff on DVD, and it cracks me up every time.

Red Buttons was in a movie, I think it was called "Hatari!" that I loved as a kid.

John Wayne (PBUH) used to always have somebody (Red Buttons, Chill Wills, Ken Curtis) who could double as a handy friend and comedy relief in his movies. Nowadays the comedy relief (that idiot Owen Wilson) is the hero.

What went wrong?

Ira...you are not alone...those guys were true geniuses in comedy...WC...an icon, the Stooges...still incredibly popular...any one got some Soupy Sales DVD's..not exactly the same thing, but still funny....Red wasn't a slapstick actor, but still played a great comedic actor, played his roles well....unfortuntately most of the comedy nowadays relies on some sort of sexual enuendo to get a laugh or an obscene language reference....I had the opportunity to view some of the Marx Bros. films back in the early 70's while sitting aside of Harpo's wife, Susan, (I was only 20)...she really had a perspective on humor in film and great back stage stories... especially with the "granddaddies" not just the Marx Bros...of the time...I know, some may think I'm an old dude now, but I still watch the oldies and laugh, sorry, but they are the best, and everyone in the family could watch them and laugh...remembering fondly... and Ira...do you have the "Bank Dick"by WC?....a classic...and don't get me going on "Go West" .Doug

Hello, I have posted a couple of times and should have introduced myself. So I beg for forgiveness(groveling on knees right now)
Anyways I loved Red Buttons when he worked with Harvey Corman(sp?) and Carol Burnette. Don't get me started on the 3 stooges (Own a degree from ynuck ynuck University) and as far as WC Fields. I always remeber one of his quotes" A Man has to believe in something...I'll believe I 'll have another drink.
I do not have a Teardrop yet because all funding goes into my avatar (14 weeks old)
