North Meets South Update
August 3 – 6, 2006
http://www.geocities.com/len19070/North ... South.html
As the TearJerkers North Meets South Rally approaches we have a few announcements to make.
***Formal registration will be cut off July 4 2006. This does not mean you cannot attend if not registered by then. We will refuse no one, however after July 4 you will have to register at the event and it must be in cash.
***In an effort to accommodate more arrival schedules, the
Friday luncheon will be switched to a
Friday dinner at 6pm.
Weekend Itinerary
Friday
• 6 PM - Dinner, cooked by your directors, and it is included in your registration fees, so you only need to bring your appetite to the shelter. (We would appreciate a few Teardropper’s to help in clean up.)
• After dinner Friday there will be a Horse Race. That’s right a Horse Race. The first ever TearJerkers “Directors Cup”. The directors & assistant directors as Jockeys. Don’t miss the free entertainment!!!
• Camp Fire – bring your wood, your chairs and sit a while.
Saturday
• For anyone interested, Andrea Jones will be running a Float Trip down the New River (see details at the bottom of the page).
• 5 PM - Voting ballets are due (we will be voting on each others teardrops)
•
6 PM - Pot-Luck Dinner (bring a dish to share)
• Awards ceremony, right after dinner.
• Camp Fire – bring your wood, your chairs and sit a while.
Float Trip Details
River Trip on the New River - local to Ft. Chiswell!
When: Saturday, August 5th.
Approximate length/time: 8 miles or so, about 4 - 5 hrs.
Meeting time: 9:00 am
Meeting location: TBA
What do you need?
1. Watercraft (canoe, kayak, raft from Wally World, whatever) & paddles of some kind. NOTE: If you want to rent a canoe, let me know and I will try to find a local outfitter to help us out. However, I will need some notice on that, so let me know early!
2. Life jackets - I don't do river trips without PFD's. Helmets strongly encouraged, if you are in a kayak. Yes, we will be on a river and a fairly shallow one at times.
3. Lunch / food of some kind. Yes, we will find a place to stop here and there or there and here or maybe just here.
4. Water to drink.
5. River shoes. Some kind of old sneakers are recommended as broken glass is commonly found on the river bank. I don't want to be making a trip to the emergency room with someone.
6. Well, I think I've figured out the important stuff.
I would also ask you to leave the alcohol in your TD - not in your water bottle. It'll make the trip more fun for us all. There will be plenty of opportunity to relax at the campground when we get back.
If you are interested, please post a message, PM one to me, or email me at eddytrn[at]i[dash]plus[dot]net
NOTE: If you are coming to Ft. Chiswell and you would like to go on the river, but do not have a watercraft, let me know. Also if you are coming with a canoe/K-2 and you have an opening for a bow/stern paddler, let me know. I am willing to be an intermediary. Keep in mind, the sooner that you let me know, the higher on the priority list you go.
I am aiming to be back in the campground around 4 pm, if possible.
I will also be asking for people to help with putting together some shuttle vehicles. If you are willing to help shuttle, let me know on Friday night in the campground, if possible. We'll be there sometime on Friday morning. Look for the blue Subaru Forester w/ racks and VA tags - and pulling a tear, of course.
Andrea.
We all are looking forward to seeing and meeting everyone.
