Not that I am a believer in the myth, but we have always done it. Trolls hang from the bars and if you don't honk you're liable to run over their fingers. You don't want angry trolls...

Good point! I do not know. I know that the stories are different from family to family who partake in the fun. Usually it is to entertain the young ones.
