Tiny Trailer Build

I worked on the frame some today. Started cleaning and priming, but the wind decided to blow toward 6 plus figures of parked vehicles and I figured Momma wouldn’t like primer spots on her rigs... so I quit for the day. I did figure out how to use the antique door however... I think.

The red ‘4’ line is four feet from where I think the back edge of the floor will be. I’ll bolt a 6’ wide, 2x6 on the back frame member and use that as the rear floor support.

Home Depot day...
I got enough paint and primer for the trailer. 2x2s for wall structures, bolts for main rear cross member for the floor. Now all I need is time. Maybe later next week I can paint the frame and put down the floor.
Another part for the power system came in the mail too. A 12 volt outlet, 2 USB ports and a digital volt meter in a nice mount. I need to start sketching the electrical system.

OH, I also got the hinges and framing material for the main door.

Should I put a layer of adhesive between the floor (5/8” exterior plywood) and the frame?

I think i discovered something useful for tear drop or small trailer builds. I want sliding dividers on the shelf between the living area and the galley. This stuff looks perfect. Trim a quarter inch off the bottom slider on one side and sliding panels can be installed and removed like sliding glass doors.

Now I am looking at it for window coverings too. Hmmm...

That's a good idea. I used aluminum C channel for my cabinets which works well but this stuff is cheaper and most likely lighter.

If you have access to a table saw, slider rails are fairly easy to make. Here's the detail on mine:



The grooves in the rails are 1/4" wide and the subfloor plywood I used for the sliders is about .21" thick.

We were in Salt Lake City yesterday so I picked up some ‘stuff’ for the trailer. A wiring kit, some small D-rings and some other items. Always fun to wander in Harbor Freight.

I got a bit done today. More cleanup and primer on the frame. I hope tomorrow to pick up the whole thing with the forks on my tractor and prime the under parts I have trouble with. Then a coat of black paint. I want to raise the fenders a bit too, for more clearance.

And, just for fun, I bought a couple of cans of undercoating to see how that works after sealing the floor.
I’m also considering painting the whole rig with bed liner. Roll on, if I can find it. I saw a jeep that was painted entirely with bed liner and it was just NEAT. Thinking...



More measuring and planning on door placement, seals, lighting, shelves, cabinets. Having fun.

for the last few years i have used some of the spray bedliner from Tractor Supply under my finish coats

tend to just do the fwd surfaces/leading edges w/ the stuff

then the road rash is slower to add up

I moved the trailer today, using my tractor. It was sitting in my ‘snow storage area’ and would probably be buried by spring. So, while it was being moved, and up in the air on the tractor forks, I painted the rest of the underparts. Then I stole the jack from my generator trailer and put it on the LONG tongue of this trailer. Now, I can easily block up the frame, remove the tongue and shorten it. At least something got done.

Thanks guys, probably a good idea. I don’t have a welder outlet yet, so that will work out for the best. I hope to start building the floor tomorrow and start spraying the black frame finish. We will see.

I can’t do much at a time, but I can’t just sit all the time either. So, it is such a beautiful day, I went out and painted the frame black.
Then, I decided to start on the trailer floor. I cut the rear cross member, which is 6 feet wide, and temporarily bolted it in place. Then I got crazy and cut the first half of the floor. That was all I had energy for.

There will be a perimeter 2x4 on the sides of the floor(underneath) as well as a support cross member under the joint between the front and rear halves of the floor. I am making the fender holes a bit large since I plan to raise them some for more clearance.

Thanks for that. Truth! I stumble around and measure 11 times to get the correct numbers. Hopefully, I’ll have a rolling bed one of these days.
