Together with the upper radius of the door, the hight of the underside of the door was important.

I wanted to have the possability to sit in the doorway with a straight back for a person of at least 6 ft. and then some.

I also wanted the underside of the doorway about the higher portion of the thickness of the matrass. (At least not at floor hight). I think i did reasonable well.

Than i created a horizontal midline for the total teardrop. All in all it took a pretty long time but i think i did well.

Most time took the preciseness in making of some parts.

So than i had to miter saw the total length of the under floor parts, and than the top floor.

I went as far as each plate it's own angle. Maybe a bit much, but i wanted to know how precies i coult come with only a basic consumer circular saw plus guiding plate.

Well not bad at all.

The 2 bolts you see in the pictures inside the circular hole are 1 bolt for lowering the spare tire system, and bolt 2 for locking a removable hitch balljoint devise for a bicycle carrier.

On the foto the top floor plate was a little warped because of the warmth of the sun but no biggie.

So For you guys and girls i made a couple of foto's of the complete floor. The floorlid still must be sawed in two parts, but at this time i am not exactly sure were.

It depands mostly were i would cut the matrass in half for opening the storage space.

Since you can opload only 3 pictures at a time here part 2

Sawing out the hatchlid takes a circular saw with a blade with of 2 mm.

Using some 2 mm aluminum strip against damage, the total result looks pretty smart.

Now for some serious imaginary deviding skills i took some paint tape, some strings and a big square beam for the hight of the matrass.

Later i added a simple tarp to get a better picture of the inside space of the teardrop.

Ofcourse i knew in big lines how i want to make it, but with some very simple tools you can verify your plans in much more details.

And Yes i sat, and laid on the beam for some good and detailed space (ial) awareness (???) (How do you call that in english….)

The choise was a little bigger livingspace around your waistline when you are sitting up, or a somewhat deeper upper storing space.

I am chosing for the somewhat bigger livingspace. (So the upper storage space will be 4 inches less deep).

Remember i have storage space under the floor, at the back of the teardrop trailer, around the matrass where your upperbody lies, and some space on the seeling in the upper storing space.

I know you have never enough storage space, but at that high level from the ground you can store only light things.

The with of the matrass will be only betyween the wheelwells so i dont have a matrass with many strange angles.

So when you lay down the matrass under your upperbody is a little bit less wide, than the total teardrop trailer is but that's ok.

So that's it for now.
Next the last vertical rib at the back, paint the last things of the lower part of the teardrop, seal the outer edgesof the floor system, and mounting the floor system plus the underfloor storagespace.
Than the lower part of the trailer (from the ground till the floor) is basicly ready.

After that , doors, and hatch, and inner dividing walls.

Meanwhile i will lurk here on our site for some more detailed design ideas for the inside of the teardrop and the galley.

See you.

Greets, Smeerkees.

Hello everybody here an update of what i have been doing last couple of months here in the Netherlands.

From fotografical stand of vieuw it maybe doesn't seem very much, but actually it took more time than i expected.

So here we go:

Last upload we ended up about here.

From that point i cut the floorparts into the rigth length, and angle, welde the middle rib at the back in, and very important the strip of metal between the ribs (under floor hight) to mount the skin to. painted it, and mounted and bolted the complete floor plus the storage unit.

Now when i would ever need to mount a new floor i only have to remove the skin at the back of the trailer under the hatch, and cut out the middel rib. When the floor is unbolted i can pull out the complete floor (without underfloor space box) and make a new one, just tack weld the middle rib in again and rivet the skin back in.
A litlle more work than i would like but absolutly doable.

Well i think that time it is well beyond my rigor mortus...

So here a picture of the total concept of the back.
Earlier i already made the hitch system but not yet on the correct length.

So you see it doesn't look that much on foto's but it took quit some time.

At this moment i am making the inside deviding walls plus some small storage spaces around the top half of the matrass.

That also includes designing, making, and welding the mountingbrackets needed.

When i have done some of that i will upload new material.

For now, greetz,

Smeerkees.

Sweet!

What do you call that plywood? I've never seen it in the U.S. What's it usually used for? Good looking stuff.

Hello Tony,

The plywood i use we call betonplex here in the Netherlands. (literally it means concreteplex.)

It is a kind of multiplex, with a durable coating.

I know for sure that it is available in 12mm, 15mm and 18mm thickness. Maybe even more but not sure.
Available in this brown colour, and in a type of grey i believe.

On the floor of the trailer i used a type of Betonplex with a texture, a kind of "antislip". (the 18mm type)
The "innerwalls" i use a type witch is completly flat. (the 15 mm type). This is very good and easy to clean, also wet.

Betonplex is used in envirouments witch are both sometimes wet and sometimes dry at times.
When you seal the edges it is very durable.

We often use it as for instance (open flatbed) trailerfloors for its good wet/dry capabilities.
I believe it is also used in the building industrie as wallmaterial for pouring concrete foundations for buildings.

So very strong, very durable, good wet/dry capabilities, flat or textured, good anti rot capabilities, etc.

But also pretty expensive and not very lightweight. Although plates of wat we here call hardboard (very small wood particleboard) is much heavier.

Hello everybody,

Here's an update from the Netherlands.

Wow, i can't believe it has been already 4 months since my last update.

So what have i done since november.

Well, both a lot, and not that much at the same time.
The pictures show not that much, but it took a lot of time, both in development, as in the actual number of jobs per plank.

So first let me show you some pictures.
