Postby Classic Finn » Sat Jun 10, 2006 6:03 pm

We were wondering if anyone on the forum has made Web Pages...or
a Webshop...

The wife was asking if there is anyone from the teardrop forum who could assist her to make a website...

If you are familiar with Microsoft Word, that is probably the easiest way to make a web site - if you look in the 'Save' options, you'll see a HTML file type.

Of course, being Microsoft, it tries to add lots of extra stuff to the basic HTML code, which 'proper' HTML guys turn up their noses at, but nevertheless it seems to work OK.

Another quick and easy way (also free) is to use Google Page Creator at http://pages.google.com/. You need to have a Gmail account to use it and Gmail accounts are by invite only, but I have plenty of invitations to give. If you want an invite just send me your email address so I can issue the invitation. Another easy way is to use a blog to put up information and photos at no cost, see my trailer blog below at blogger.com

Thanks, David B

If you just want a basic site, I suggest www.freewebs.com too cause it have 2 option (i forgot where it is) regular user and advance user. Regualr user have a WYSIWYG (What you see is what u get) interface which mean that all you would have to do is to move stuffs around by mouse and voila you have a site ready. Once you have develop some HTML skill, they have a Advance User option for people to make a site without any AD and whatnot. I have a freewebs site that I'm currently overhauling and compared to about 20-30 other free site provider and editor, this is the best for me so far.

www.freewebs.com/radscientist
My site which is in RAW HTML so it is much much more customizable than the WYSIWYG option but you need to know html before you try the advance user.

I just used Netscape Composer. I can write rudimentary code, and could do my website that way, but Composer is faster for me. Easy pull downs for picking fonts, colors, tables, etc.

Click the "www" button at the end of my post to see.

Good luck!

Yes the WYSIWYG interface is faster and have more features but if you truly want a good site with your own personal touch then I would still suggest some HTML lesson and whatnot, you could also learn Javascript or go to a javascript site to get a personalized dropdown menu or whatever effect you want. If you want to learn more about HTML and a few other Web related codes, I suggest that you go to http://www.w3schools.com/ . My college classes that I took (one of them was a class on HTML) suggested this site for learning HTML

Either way, even if you want to keep your site design the way it is for now, I still suggest that you at least look it up so once you do get sick of the limits of the WYSIWYG interface, you would not have to pull your hair out trying to find another good free site provider without ADs and whatnot and makes your own site from HTML itself. HTML codes are also more capabil of more than what the WYSIWYG can give if you know the codes.

I just use write my own HTML in my file manager in cpanel. Load it write it....done. It's not that tough once you understand the basic HTML codes. Of course a little help from a decent picture and graphics editor is good too.

I use phpNuke for my site.Photos4Aidan.com.
Works very well and sets up pretty easy. You can integrate all sorts of different modules and blocks to go with it (sun and moon, weather, friends, tons of crap). Mine is a little customized. I spent some time learning how and where things are to change them. But it is basically an out of the box type of thing, that is very customizable and really pretty easy from the Admin area.
You can integrate the Gallery photo program into it also (I have).
Just step by step through the instructions after uploading (to your webspace per FTP or however else) the download (7.8 is the free one right now) off the phpNuke site (there are a few customized ones also if ya look on different sites) and do the steps.
You don't have to learn php either. All works through the Admin area. Check it out.
I have also farted around with Aobe GoLive and rearranged things for my site in there also.

My website was started in the late 90s and it's been evolving ever since. I started with a free web host and when they went out of business, I transferred all of my pages to my Brighthouse web host. I probably have around 80 pages right now.

I started with the basics...learning to use HTML code and writing the code for my pages. Mostly now, it's copy one page, paste in a new page, and edit the content for the new page.

I haven't used any software programs to format my pages...they are all from scratch (and they look it...lol). There are lots of free courses on how to use HTML code, such as http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/tut/lessons.html. Just search for "html 101" and some will be displayed.

I have access to courses to learn Java, but haven't done any learning yet. Whatever you use, good luck.
Dale

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.
