Well, I'm camping tonight WITHOUT a TD

4PM Friday..my wife just called from home...and a lightning bolt just took out a major transformer.

She explained it to me, and it ain't one for just our block--it's a multi-block transformer.

So who knows when we'll have power back, but I'm gonna pick up something to cook on the propane stove and OVEN which she yelled at me for buying in the first place!
Here we go again!

Don't come home without that generator. Who knows when you'll get another chance. I can see it now.

I vote, buy the generator. You'll be golden next time it happens.

Ooohhh--I forgot I posted this.

Power came back on about 7 that night, so no big deal. But it was out again YESTERDAY for a few hours while the power company was fixing something else.

I feel like I'm living in Cuba.

And I can't AFFORD the generator now. I'm going for either the 2000W Kipor or Honda, the quiet, inverter ones.

Is there much price diff between kipor and honda? The 2000 kipor is about 900, but finding a price for the honda is more difficult.

I know someone who has both and said they are similar with the kipor being just a bit more noisy.

I think the Kipor can be found for a lot cheaper than that, and if I could afford it even at this cheaper price, I would spend the time finding the link to show you.

The Honda can be had for between $800 and $900, depending on where you are if you're not buying online:

Down here by me, generator prices have been fluctuating like OIL prices, but mostly going down and not up.

After last year's hurricanes, so many peope bought so many generators that either weren't sufficient for their needs, over priced, just plain crappy, that's there's a lot of "activity" in this "market."

Also, every manufacturer is coming out of the woodworks to flood the state with their stuff, driving down prices.

Arne, while looking in the past I have seen the Kipor in the 5-6 hundred range and the Honda in the 9-1000 range....just don't remember where....try froogle.com and other price sites...

p.s. the Kipors are also sold under the McCullough name

I just got a Kipor 2000Ti for $665 shipped, the prices have been going up though. I am also looking at a larger unit to run the 13500btu a/c unit in the Airstream. The 3000 (formerly called the 3500) goes for about $1300 now, 3 months ago it was $900.

I plugged my teardrop to the genset, it ran the 5000btu a/c unit with no problems (so far). It was not in "Smart Throttle" mode. I probably won't need the a/c a the IRG (I hope) but I can use it to charge the battery.

I have a db meter, if somebody has a Honda at IRG, I am going to measure them both.

Can you believe this? We lost power again last night from 7PM to 3AM.

I was sweating my COJONES off.

If I knew I was going to be dealing with this, I would have splurged for the Pep Boys Portable AC for my tear way back when, and bought the generator to at least power AC for one room. I can't currently plug my central AC to a generator, and it would draw too much for a TD generator anyway.
