Something where my hands create a physical project. No one appreciates a guy who manipulates ones and zeros all day long. There is a serious attitude that since we can't touch or feel your results, you must have spent the time doing nothing.

Only when the mouse clicks stop having their intended results, and I can get the computer back on its feet is a fleeting and often begrudged sense of appreciation offered.

I don't know why this is, people seem to appreciate the work of doctors, auto mechanics, electricians, etc. Just a prevailing attitude that a few keystrokes and some thinking are not worth much.

I'd like to A: Build something, B: Draw something, C: Compose a tune, or D: Photograph something in the wild for a new career :-)

It's always bugged me that there are so few fun concept restaurants for families with kids. (Chuckie Cheese doesn't count--what a dump.)

And BrwBier, I can post all day at the office because my eyes never leave this computer. And THAT stinks as a way to make a living. That's why whenever I have to writing as part of a project, I sit by the beach or at the bar with my pad and pen.

I'm kind of retired. I collect a nice little pension, but am not yet on Social Security. I had a high pressure job that I really grew to hate. I dealt with the public on a day to day basis. Now that I've "retired", I needed something to do that would occupy some time, allow some social interaction, and provide a small income.

I jumped at the chance to work at the local cable company. I empty trash, clean toilets, and pretty much do most of the maintenance of the building and grounds. Of course, when people ask what I do I just tell them I clean toilets. My wife turns beet red and has to tell them about the other things I do.

I'm not out to impress anyone. I figure if someone I meet would prefer not to associate themselves with or hang with a toilet cleaner, they aren't worth my time anyway.

Besides, I'm a pretty important guy where I work. Stop and think about it. Like I told the GM, I'm more important than he is. He takes a two week vacation and comes back to a pile of work. I take a two week vacation and they hire a company to come in and do my job. I guess its all in how you percieve things. I feel needed at work and can see instant results from my efforts.

I worked 3 or 4 different construction/carpentry jobs right out of HS
I spent 22 years in the USAF
Worked at a driving range
Worked the Pro Shop at a Golf course
Worked the Snack Bar at a Golf Course
Worked Grounds Crew at a Golf Course
Operated Heavy Equipment to help rebuilt a Golf Course
Had 10 or 15 different computer related jobs
I still do PC repair and networking as a hobby/parttime thing
Was the 'technology' manager at an Office Depot
(I think there were a few other things in there too)

NOW - I drive a truck for PODS (Portable On Demand Storage)

Ideally, I would build (and sell of course) teardrops and custom parts (like fenders) for teardrops.

I cleaned my dad's office for years. I have a lot of toilets in my time. Now it drives me nuts because I don't like the way my wife cleans the bathrooms at home. I do a better job in half the time. I'm on to her though, it may be a scam so that she doesn't have to do it at all.

Always wanted to be a police S.W.A.T. sharp shooter. Taking out the bad guys, 1 bullet at a time. My eyes failed me early,and killed the dream. Must have 20/50 minium vision without glasses,and I can't even come close. Oh well, I am having fun working with seniors at a retirement home. A few more years and I will be there too. LOL
