Trolley Top build - another first time builder

So the last few days have been busy.
1. I have routed out the doors in the cabinet face plates and cut them to final size.
2. The walls have had the inner skins glued on, and dadoes have been cut in for the bulkheads and cabinets.
3. The tongue box floor has been completed, and the TB walls have had their inner skins glued on and dadoes have been routed in for dividers and shelving.
4. Stabilizer jacks arrived in the mail, and I installed them.
5. I dry fit the walls and the cabinet faces/bulkheads to the trailer.



It really feels like I am making good progress which motivates me to get out in the heat and make saw dust.

I have been doing several hours of work every day on the teardrop, and things are looking pretty good. All of the cabinets inside the cabin are in, the tongue box and trolley top have been installed, and the ceiling is in.

Next we will work on putting in the roof spars, work on the doors, and the hatch.

Looking good

Toyed with the idea of building of trolley top, bot decided on a foamy instead.
Interested on how you plan on building the windows in the top.

I have gotten a few things done in the past week, but it is getting to a place where I can work for hours and it will appear that nothing has happened.

However, here is a list of what has been done.

1. The spars have been installed, and the blocking has been added between them.
2. I have done the wiring runs for the electrical.
3. The cabinet doors have been installed. They will come down when the finish is put on, but it is good to see them in place.
4. A significant amount of time has been spent figuring out how to do what I have in my mind. I have been trying to incorporate a number of ideas from a variety of sources, so things don’t always transfer directly.

I will now be able to start work on the galley hatch. I don’t plan to complete the galley this summer, but it does need to be water tight.

The trolley top windows will be a single pane of plexiglass sealed in place, and surrounded with a bezel.

Since my last update I have:
1. added gate handles to the top of the closet to act as closet bars
2. Created and installed a gutter system surrounding the hatch to channel water in much the same way that a car hatch channels water.
3. Constructed the hatch and fitted it into the teardrop.

Now I will be doing the final electrical install, putting in the insulation, attaching the outer wall skin, assembling the doors, and putting on the roof.

I am planning on this teardrop to be a woody, so I am researching different epoxy brands, and what varnishes work best to provide UV protection.

So, it has been some months since my last post. As a teacher I had very little time during the school year to work on the camper. But I have picked up working on it when weather got warm, and have spent several hours most days getting things done.
I put insulation in the roof, installed the roof panels, and cut the polycarbonate for the trolley top windows.
Then I made a bit of a mistake. I needed to seal the joints between the trolley top walls and the roof. To do this I thickened some epoxy with saw dust. It sealed it fine, but the result was much less than attractive in appearance. This caused me to need to add trim pieces where I had not planned to.

I am now doing the sanding for the application of epoxy, then Spar varnish.

when working w/ pox i mixed wood flour not saw dust in it for a thickener

the four mixes more thoroughly/evenly and the color is more attractive to me

fillets are easy to contour now that i found this abrasive wheel

get a couple of the 4" ones as they do wear down

when run diagonally along the initial fillet the 80 grit in the nylon bristles makes short order of fairing leaving a nice concave result

What did you use for the corner trim ?

I steam bent some clear aspen. It is a soft wood, so it stands easily, and has the contrast in color I was looking for.

I had never steam bent anything before, so that was a small adventure.

The teardrop is basically done. Some minor details will be addressed over time, but the structure and finish are complete. Waiting for the mattress to come in stock at our local IKEA, and checking out options for a battery. Leaning towards a solar generator lithium battery.
