Strip of foam filler method?

I'm searching for a method to fill voids in wire channels on foam. I found this reference but can't find info about it...

Can someone help describe this method? I understand that it works better than filling with GS!?

That would be gluing a strip of foam that fits snugly, into the channel to hold the wires in place. Once the glue is dry, sand the filler flush.

The problem with any filler other than the foam itself is that it's hard to sand two different hardness materials flush. Even with foam strips you should avoid getting glue where you'll be sanding.

You can read through my posts about a 1/4 down the page viewtopic.php?f=55&t=54099&hilit=wire&start=345 . I used a hot wire and made basically a V shape with a circle on the end to make my cuts. Then I cut the circle part off the end of the foam strip that the hot wire made. This made a round channel for the wire to run through. The V made it so I could glue the piece back in place without being pushed back too far. I used caulk to glue the piece back in. I take a scrap piece of foam to push the piece back into place. This will keep the surfaces the the same and the caulk will hold in the correct position till it dries. Then fill the voids that are left from the cut with light weight spackle. Let dry and sand smooth.

Thanks guys... I'll do some tests to get it right. Never thought about the two densities sanding differently. Will be careful in the future with glue for sure.

If I have hard glue on the surface I will grind it down blow the surface with a dremel tool and then fill the void with light weight spackle. As long as you sand the spackle within a few days it is about the same density as the foam.
