Cross your fingers for me--free Honda EU generator

Postby Ira » Wed Jul 26, 2006 3:11 pm

One of my new print vendors--who used to be one of my OLD print vendors but sold his company and is starting a new one--was just up in the office.

The talk turned to TDs, my album here, then generators--and he said he had one of those little Honda units that he never used, because he has one of these humongous house back-up systems.

The guy has more money than God, but he invests better, and he says it's mine. (He wants more of my business.) He identified it on the Honda site, it's the quiet EU, but doesn't know if its the 1000 or the 2000.

So I need the fingers crossed for the 2000.

Got it all crossed for you Ira, whichever you get they are both real good units, 2000 obviously better if'n you want to run a microwave or Air Con

The smaller unit will run a small Air con and Microwave (650 Watt)

And you thought you never have any good luck?

Things are looking up

Thanks for the fingers, guys.

And yeah--people are nice to me when I can throw them $150,000 a year in printing business. (It ain't MY money, but I'm the one choosing the vendors to spend it on.)

And that's why I thought I HAD to have the 2000 to run the AC, George. Like, is there a possibility that the 1000 will have the power to start up my 5200btu? I thought different. The microwave…I can live without during these times.

What's nuts about all of this is that 99.9% of my camping is going to be done at sites with full hookup ANYWAY. But everyone here has made me so paranoid and anal-retentive that I have to be prepared for ANYTHING.

Hi Ira

have you any specs on the AC? All I know for sure is that the AirCon on my Brother in laws home converted library bus ran from an Honda eU1000i

Even if you dont have full specs for AC, the worst case is that it wont start it up, should not do any damage trying, will just cut out.....

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Ira. Hope it'ts a 2000, cause a 1000 's not going to do it. My Kipor 1000 strains to run my 2000 BTU. But even if it's the 1000 you'll love it. You can still charge battery's run light's and coffee pot with it. If we lose power (which we do often in the country) I hook mine up to just run the TV and computer at the house. That keeps both me and the Boss happy.

George, the manual with the specs is sitting in the TD in the boatyard, but here's the unit:

http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/AGM05LH.html

And Sonet, I would think you can run more than a TV and computer with the 1000. If you see my post of today n the thread "Camping without a TD,' we again lost power from 7PM until 3AM last night!

It was like living in a sauna, but my marine battery (which hadn't been charged in 6 weeks) and DC to AC inverter provided more than enough power to run two 100w bulbs, the big TV and DVD player.

Ira Yes it would do more, But they usually only last an hour. Just part of being on a rural co-op.
I have a 3000 watt if we have an extended outage.

Heres the spec's on your AC
POWER / RATINGS
Cooling - 4.4 Amps
Cooling - Watts 480
Voltage 115 V

So it uses 506 watt's to run it. AC's usually take 3 to 4 times the run amps to start the compressor. My 2000 btu runs at 2.6 amp but it takes
7.9 amp to start it. A 1k genset puts out 8.6 amps

Hi all

I was mistaken about my brother in laws Honda 1000 Watt running the 500 Watt airconditioning in his motorhome, actually it was a smaller generator (either an 850Watt or 650 Watt unit, will try to find out later)

But we neither of us know how many Btu's the air con system was (he got it second hand when building the motorhome) its and electrolux motorhome system though so I may be able to track the specs down.

The start up strain is only momentary, so its got to be worth a try, I was amazed that he could run it from a sub 1 Kw genset.

Congratulations, Ira. Hope you get it for sure. I'd like to have one myself, so have to admit I'm slightly envious. :envious:

Got my fingers crossed for ya. If it's the EU2000, that is a $1000 unit, the EU1000 is around $699. Either way, free is always good.
