eBay listing 1958 Fan Drop trailer

Postby bohemian » Sat Dec 19, 2020 9:33 am

Just a heads up for anyone looking at the eBay offering of a 1958 Fan drop teardrop trailer, it is not a 1958, it was built by one of our own Rick Sheerin back in 2006/7 it is a supper nice trailer and well built, but not a 1958 as the seller is saying it is. Pass the word.

Well.... that's fraud. But you knew that.

I think I'll ask them a question about it. ;)

Curiously, it's probably worth the asking price for a well built 2006 camper. A 1958 would be expected to need lots of work (as I understand it from this forum--not from any personal experience).

If I were in the market for a 2nd hand home built camper, I'd look for a ~2006. If I were in the market for a restoration project, I'd consider a 1958...He's marketing to the wrong crowd.

(Not that I'm saying anything we all don't already know.)

One of the comments on there is that it isn't a real 1958 FAN. Can't imagine it would be hard to tell if looking at it in person. Only way I'd buy a camper!

There have been quite a few incidents where people have stolen pictures of trailers and put them up for sale when they didn't really even have a trailer. So, it could be a big scam.

I asked him if it really was a '58 Fan. Here's his answer:

"From what I was told it was a 58 Fan restored and customized"

I just sent him a link to a real 1958 Fan.

And here's his repsonse:

I have seen quite a few fans . Like the ad says it’s a restored customized fan . Mostly all the parts were from a fan and customized. Thanks for you concern though

The eBay seller says it is registered as a 1958, someone lied about that when it was re-registerd. It was built in NY, so I'm sure it had a Home built registration. Biggoofyguy that is the same trailer, same guy trying to sell on a different site. At least one of the posts on that site said it wasn't a 58. And I'm pretty sure Fan didn't build any teardrop trailers, their smallest I think is the 13' Traveler. I reversed looked up the phone number, and it shows up on a lot of vehicles listed for sale. Call day or night :D

I see he has removed the ebay listing...
