Hey Ira, Here's a Bud!

Postby Loader » Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:14 am

As I have mentioned in a past thread, I am retired USAF weapons loader, and I have a lot of friend still in. Recently this photo made its way to me from an A-10 unit deployed to Bargram, Afghanistan.

Thought you might enjoy seeing it Ira.

To add insult to injury the people we're dropping on, the Taliban holdouts and Al Queda don't drink.

(Maybe if they did, they'd be happier and less irritable!?!?!?!?)

hey Earl, thanks for that pic...we have a defunct airbase here (England AFB) that hosted the A-10 for many years prior to Gulf War 1 ...when the A-10s went to that war they never returned and the base was closed...I have 2 friends who retired from the AF at that time...one was a bomb loader and the other was the senior NCO and in charge of the gun shop that worked on the GAU 30MM gatling gun...I copied and printed those pics up for them....

That has got be one of the most detailed bomb paint jobs I have seen. We used to write messages on them, maybe little drawings, but nothing like this.

No worries Jack. Hope they enjoy them. I remember the base, I think the LA ANG still flies the A-10, up near Barksdale. This one is from Spangdahlem, looking at the patch painted on the upper fuselage.

Here's another:

...yep, they still use the Claiborne range here...some come all the way from the Carolina's to shoot 'em up...we are 20 mi away and can still hear that big ol' gun when it lets loose....

p.s. they'll appreciate that last pic as well

Earl, it might be a preprinted vinyl graphic that they stick on there.

But looking at it again now, I don't think so.

Maybe a stencil.

I'm pretty sure the 917th is still at Barksdale flying A-10s and Bufs.

When were you there Woody? I was there 84-87, F-4E and F-4G. They are now flying F-16 and A-10.

I was not far from there at Zweibrucken AB from '81-'83. We had the RF-4C's, no bombs falling but we did have the occasional plane drop out of the sky! Lottsa fun over there. Good beer!
